Ten day count down

In an hour I will be on day 19 then it's a 10 day countdown to day 29 which will be the longest I haven't drunk for in 30 years- my whole drinking life.
I went to the pub again earlier with a drinking friend, at one stage someone tried to order me a strongbow but I politely but firmly declined. Every time I go to the pub these days I get so so bored, more than an hour or so and I'm practically blanked out and asleep.
I still will pop up maybe once or twice a week as these are where the majority of my friends are and in the whole they are glad I'm not drinking. It also makes them question there own alcohol consumption which can make them a little on edge sometimes.
I think my depression is lifting now I'm sober, I was watching a DVDs of mr Bean with the boys and as well as them laughing I found myself laughing as well- something my morose self hasn't done for a long time.
All I can say is :tyou everyone on here who has given me the support and courage to make it up to now you are all truly inspirational
:c011:

Keep going! I'm on day 21, which is the longest I've been sober since 1991 when I dried out for 6months.

keep at it.

Give yourself a break, stop going to the pub. As one demure old timer gal says - "No one goes to the whorehouse to hear the piano player." Crass, but it gets the point across. Every time you go there you're about as safe as a box of Oreos at an AA meeting full of detoxing newcomers.

I think the hour might be up. So, congrats on day 19!
I'm with the others - that is a dangerous place to be. You may have done OK there up to now but why tempt fate? Plus, it doesn't sound like you are having a really wonderful time while you are there anyway.
But, you're a grown up so you get to make your own decisions. Keep posting!

Stay out of the pub.

If you keep going to the barber shop you will end up getting a hair cut.

Hi I know your all caring and some are worried about me going to the pub, I would say I only go if I can guarantee myself I'm not going to drink. I don't obsess about alcohol at all when there. I would say if you keep going to the barbers shop you will only end up having a haircut if you actively order one or you might order something different.
I really have no problem in pubs with craving - that seems to happen at home. I'm also learning by going to pubs that there not an environment I particularly like any more which is useful to me. In someways I'm saying goodbye to my old life.
Thanks for all your support it means a huge amount.

I think everyone tries to keep their old life, and just not drink.

That's was a real problem for me because my life was actually all about drinking.

I cannot count the number of times I've gone to a bar or to a mates place and stay sober...only to drink again the next time.

I was counting on self control over something I'd clearly demonstrated I had no control over.

Of course, you may be different to me - but please do not let down your guard.

Thanks Dee - good advice. I'm def not going back to my old life of sitting in the pub seven nights a week, just the thought of that makes me shudder. I will certainly be on my guard- if I'm feeling vulnerable I don't go. Cheers
