Had a surprise this morning

I was cleaning out of the work trucks as we are taking it to Chicago to visit relatives this weekend. I found a half full bottle of Captain Morgan under the backseat. Have no idea how long I've been driving around with that thing hidden back there. Threw it straight in the trash. Last year that would have been a little gold nugget to be stowed away somewhere in the house.

Thank goodness you found it...what if you'd been pulled over for a sobriety checkpoint or something like a tail light? It would have been too annoying to get hit with an open container citation when you've worked so hard to get sober!

Whew!

I know the feeling. While I was putting laundry away on Sunday, I found in my dresser: an unopened pint of vodka, a half empty pint of vodka, three empty nips of vodka, and two unopened nips of vodka. I just took them right out to the dumpster. i didn't want to even smell the booze while I was pouring it out. The thought of what it smells like makes my stomach churn.

Yeah, those little surprises usually come up as empty beer cans tucked away in the closet...from my "hide the beer days". Long gone, thank God!

"Stowed away somewhere in the house???"

If I'd made that discovery back in the day, it never would have MADE it to the house!!

Oh, Lordy, Lordy. Yeah, I keep finding little empty single-shot vodka bottles under furniture or in old purses. They're everywhere!

One of my largest regrets is that if I had put as much effort into running my business as I did the drinking shenanigans, I would have done much better. I did alright, but I do think that if I had put more into it, I could have just shut it down for a year while I heal and started back up. But I didn't have that much tucked away.

My wife believes everything happens for a reason, I hope she's right.

The great thing about sobriety is that you now have time to put all that effort into something worthwhile. It's not like your life is "over" - if anything it re-starting.

I'm not suggesting that it's possible to completely erase the memories of what we've done wrong, but it's important to remember that none of it can ever be changed. It simply IS our past for better or worse.

Hi Thomas,
I can relate.
My wife calls it the alcohol and Skoal "easter egg hunt".... I have no idea how I hid so many bottles and cans of chew in so many places. It took real effort apparently. Things turn up monthly in ridiculous places.
Surely the treasure will dry up at at some point.
Glad those days are over.
Hope your trip is good.
Jonathan

Glad you dumped it right away, and the thought of drinking didn't even cross your mind. Hope you have a great trip this weekend.

Thanks Jonathon, yeah, giving up chewing is probably the next logical step. Not ready yet.

Give my regards to Chi-Town. It was the love of my life, and I miss it to this day!
