Day 1 again

Words can't express how disgusted I am with myself. I've been trying to stop drinking for years now and never make it more than a few days. I drank heavily this weekend and I have this pain under my ribcage, I'm pretty sure it's my liver. I'm determined to quit this time. I have to. I'm moving to a new town in 10 days, it's a really stressful time but I am seeing this as an opportunity to start fresh somewhere else. I'll also be turning 40 in a few months and I want sobriety to be my birthday present to myself.

I've always been told to learn from it, forgive yourself, and move forward again.

Every time we decide to get sober we have a chance!

Please don't give up cause you always have a chance if you just give it your best.

Having a plan is important, but having hope is more important. Don't give up on yourself!

Well done for finding your way back here Ruby. I know you're busy at the moment but is there any way you can visit a doctor about that pain you mentioned?

Like least said, learn from this and move forward.

I know that I should. I will if it doesn't go away

Great to see you wanting to try again, Ruby. We know you can do it. Sometimes we need further proof that we can't touch the stuff - I know I did!

you're right about that. I've been trying to convince myself that I can control myself and drink like a "normal person " but ultimately it never works and just end up drinking even more

Yes as soon as most of us try to moderate it all goes badly wrong.

Every opportunity is recognition that we must change to make ourselves better for ourselves; you're making the change, embrace the opportunity, for YOU!

Way to go on Day 1. This can be the last Day 1. It takes time but you will feel better, sobriety is a great gift to give yourself.

You have done this before, and know that every hour you get through without drinking gets just a little bit better. We learn from our relapses so remember the lessons as you move forward 💪

Tommy Edison's reply when asked why he didn't get discouraged when he couldn't make the light bulb work:

'I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work'.
