Hi, Newbie here
Hi, Newbie here
Hi all,
I just found this forum, and am looking forward to finding support, and supporting others, in a better & healthier life, free from alcohol.
Long story short, husband and I have gradually found ourselves drinking more and on a regular basis, more than we'd like. We may not be stereotypical alcoholics to our friends, but nearly nightly drinking with more quantities than we'd like to admit, has to stop.
So, we're on day 7 of no drinking, and feeling pretty okay right now. We went 6 weeks or so without drinking toward the end of 2015, but what with New Year's and all, relapsed (thinking "just for a little while"), and feel back into the routine. Apparently moderation doesn't work well for us lol.
After thinking that some kind of daily support would be a good thing, I browsed the internet and wound up here -- I'm looking forward to meeting others with a goal of a healthier lifestyle minus the drinking!

Welcome Jan - Sounds like you caught a branch on a slippery slope so good for you! Keep reading; the experiences of others are excellent motivation to keep going and be continuously grateful of where you could have been if you did not make the choice to start now.
When I hear moderation it means addiction.
7 days is amazing. Now the anxiety begins to show through...the I could use a cold one...a couple of shots will take the edge off...
Those are relapses. They destimulate the brain for a short time....but it will start again soon enough...
Each time you get through...it gets easier,,,
My new term for the anxiety I feel now, 10 months sober, is paranoia.
It used to happen all the time...now it barely happens....
Booze is poison. Get clean. Stay clean. For life. God didn't intend for us to be drunken lunatics.
That is all the other guy.s doing.

Jan - we're so glad to have you with us.
How I wish I could go back & do what you're doing. My husband & I were drinking buddies for years. It was a lot of fun - until it became a daily necessity and we found ourselves completely dependent on it. No one wanted the party to end - and it cost us dearly. I finally got sober after finding SR. Knowing I wasn't alone made all the difference. You can do this!

Thank so much for the warm welcome! It helps a lot to see other very cool people choose to let drinking go.
I think one of the tough things about not having hit "rock bottom", is it's very easy to rationalize that it's okay to keep drinking the wine. (night after night). . .
But when I feel lousy in the morning, something inside says something wrong is going on. ..anyway, thanks again! Have a great day all!
