My Day 1 Again

Thought I'd share a conversation I had with a very good friend on the weekend.

I first joined SR in January 2015 and went 52 days sober. Since then I've had a week here and week there sober. Joined another class only to fail and join another and so the story goes.

My friend, Lenny, rang me to have a 'chin-wag', what a better place than a pub since I'm drinking again. We watched the Holly Holm fight (what a fizzer).

Lenny struggles with his weight. He's about 5'2" and about 140 lbs. He wasn't anywhere like that when we first met 30 years ago. He was fit and ready. He hardly drinks.

Anyway, we got to me struggling to give up the grog and him with his weight. He too has joined a relevant forum.

Day 1 ... seems it is common on both sites.

We concluded that ... Day 1 ... is an excuse we use to give us the opportunity to go back to our to bad habits.

We've got our Plans and strategies in place but we choose to take the easy way out today. There's always tomorrow ... Day 1.

Ground Hog Day!

So where do we go from here?

The answer is simple but the doing is hard!

Until we are serious about tackling these addictions, they will haunt us.

One thing we've both learn't is not to hate ourselves the day after. Everyday is a learning day, one day we will succeed.

for listening to the rant.

This reminds me of something I read this week: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/03/06/ma...ype=collection

I know it doesn't seem related but read what he has to say about the philosophical dilemma of "sorites". It immediately made me think of drinking and quitting...

I'm glad you have support in your friend, that should be good for you both.

Having someone to check in with definitely helps. Do you have any other supports?

I hope you can get sober for good, sooner rather than later.
