Erratic sleep pattern!!!

Since I stopped drinking 3 weeks ago my sleep pattern is pretty bad! Im falling asleep at 8pm n waking at 3am! I don't know what to do. Im fighting hard to stay awake longer n feel like a zombie.

Have others had the same problem and if so how did sort it? Is there something I can get to keep me awake later? xxx

Sorry you're having such a touch time regulating a sleep pattern, Spadge.

It took me a good month to get back to my normal schedule.

Exercise helped me a lot.

I didn't have trouble staying awake, I had trouble getting and staying asleep.

I would expect anything with caffeine would help keep you awake.

Good luck!

I am only about halfway into my second week, but my sleep is completely out of whack right now. I get really tired and slow in the afternoon, but I don't take a nap to try to make myself sleep through the night. Then when I go to bed, I just toss and turn for two to four hours before I finally drop off to sleep. I just figure that my body is trying to readjust after the damage that my last few benders did to it. I am also doing a liver cleanse under the advice of my doctor, and the toxins coming out of me make me feel a little whonky, so I'm sure that is part of it as well.

I think it depends on so many variables.

Stress, health, environment etc.

My neighbor keeps late hours. I work the early shift a lot and have to get up around 3 am. He sometimes wakes me up at 11 pm dragging his trash can or playing his music. My dog barks sometimes and wakes me up too.

On the bright side, 8 pm to 3 am is 7 hours. I wish I got that everyday.

My body was totally thrashed when I quit. Depending on the depth of your addiction, it could take months to stabilize. I am getting stronger, but it has taken a long, long while.

The pain I suffer is motivational reminder that I can never drink booze again.

A bit better every moment that passes.

I got back into the gym & on the days when my fiance wasn't working, I'd go as soon as the kids went to bed at 7. By the time I worked out, showered, came home & had a light dinner it was 10pm & a good time for a quick catch up here b4 bed!! Good luck!

Yeah I was used to passing out for 8-9 hours a night. Adjusting to not having booze in your system takes a while. I still only get about 6 hours most nights after over three years but have grown accustom to it. I guess all you can do is try to abide by a rigid routine for some time and hope for the best. Things will get easier. Oh, and I try not to drink caffeine after noon.

I have fibromyalgia also. I take 25 milligrams of amitriptylin at night. Started that about a month after getting sober. My divorce from AH officially started 6 days after sobriety date. I had just about drank myself dead after a 2 month bender. It took months for my sleep pattern to even out. 7 hours of sleep would have been wonderful. Exercise and healthy food help a lot. I love to read again. Everything slowly improves.
After all the poison we have ingested the mind and body take time to recover. Be patient and kind to yourself!
