You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

Christian, non-12 Step Recovery Group

I'd not heard of this one before so I thought I'd let y'all know about a group called Reformers Unanimous. It's a Christian faith-based, non-12 step addiction recovery group.

I'm checking it out, because I'm an evangelical Christian and the 12-step model does not fit my faith.

Some observations so far:
  • Telling war stories about addiction isn't allowed.
  • "Cross-talk" (a/k/a dialogue) is encouraged.
  • They don't believe in the disease model.
  • They believe in total healing and 100% recovery (which includes never needing or wanting to use again).
  • It's a Christian group, so you can't select or invent any Higher Power you want, and there's no agnostic/atheist version of their approach.
  • They consider addiction addiction, whether it's to a substance or a self-destructive behavior like judging others.

Have a great weekend, all!

I am just wondering out of genuine curiosity, could you explain how the 12 step approach doesn't fit your faith? If it's not suitable for the forum I'd be interested to hear via pm.

I really like learning about all different approaches to sobriety as it helps me to keep an open mind and I think there's valuable tools to be had anywhere. Thanks for sharing

Nicely said Delizadee.

Recovery works best imo when those that believe, those that don't and everything in between is left at the door and get on with talking about recovery.

What ever works for you is what you should do
