I'm new :) Hi all! I think where this all began was a long time ago. I never had a tough background or anything... if anything the opposite. Mum and dad were wonderful and provided the best in life. They used to have big parties with booze flowing. Both are social and total people people. However on hindsight, I suppose that made me glamourise alcohol. My first hangover was at 14. I drank the champagne on nye that my parents and friends wouldn't drink. For some strange reason... i wasnt stopped by anyone despite me literally taking it from their hands.. Then i threw up on mums friend. In my teens, my parents didnt prohibit alcohol... they always let me have some samples. So by the time my friends were going to parties, my alcohol tolerence was already well established and I didnt want to hang out with the girls that were throwing up everywhere. Now i am 28... i havent learnt to moderate my intake. But now i know i must, as I have a little girl who is watching me. This all came to a terrible head when my husband came home at 2pm and I was drunk. Anyway, its gotten to a point where it may affect my family and I have to change. Thanks for listening :) |
Welcome! Tons of info on this site! Xoxo |
Welcome to SR! Do you have a plan or thought this? AA? Some counseling, etc? |
Welcome, Humbug! I hope you're able to stop drinking permanently, because the problems it causes will only get worse if you continue. Read around and post often--it works if you work it! |
Welcome to the forum, humbug! Read a lot and post a lot :grouphug: Once a line has been crossed, moderation is no longer possible. That's hard to accept and many of us have tried to prove otherwise for years. I was also around alcohol and started drinking at a young age. |
Thanks for very swift responses. I havent joined any formal programs but I do think in my heart that I am better off teetotal. I suppose I just need daily reminding. My husband is the best and very forgiving. We had so many good years on the booze together... its a bitter pill to swallow admitting that it is something I have lost control over. An alcohol free life would be so damn good for me though and he would be so proud of me. |
Welcome humbug. Daily reminders are very helpful. One thing that can keep you in that mode is by joining one of the class/monthly/weekender threads here, regardless of what sobriety path you choose, |
Glad you are here Humbug! Best decision you will ever make:) |
Hello HumBug |
You have definately come to the right place. Everybody here is wise supportive and caring. All the best on your journey. |
Hi humbug and welcome. Some people make a choice to never drink again and never change their mind and that's pretty much it. The reminders come in any time they think about drinking. I'm a quick study and get that concept, but I'm slow at applying what I know to bettering myself so it took more. Any way it works out for you, it was a great choice for you to come here. There's a wealth of wisdom, experience and perspectives here - all for the taking for those who are willing. :) |
