Congratulationson shotgun, melina!
So the child didn't want to hike afterall. I was disappointed but we ended up having fun at my house and a nearby park. I will go for the hike tomorrow with my dogs., or at least one of them.
Weasel. ..the sausage and peppers looks delish. Did you make it in the crockpot?
Brynn....I hope your migraine is gone.
Soberpotamus. ...I'm so happy for you that you ate 4 servings of lasagna! You must be starving from that liquid diet all those weeks. It was making me hungry just thinking about it.
Jsbodhi. ...your friends exhusband sounds like mine.
Well, anyway, I plan to do nothing for the rest of the day. Except watch some movies and grill a cheeseburger for dinner.
Catch you all later.

Brynn the smoking thing is an issue dating!

Speaking of which, I'm gonna go hang out with my neighbour again tomorrow.
I miss hanging out with him, I kinda took a break from him because he coddled me
( talked at me like I was a puppy or a baby- I hate that)
I have one or two more guys from online to go out with and then I'm done fir a while-I'm actually only going because I said I would and it won't kill me.
Anyway, neighbour and I are going to build a picnic table from scratch for my new yard.
He has a garage and a bunch of tools and saws.
Should be fun! Might take us a month or so haha, but that's ok

Grilled cheeseburger sounds delicious, HAF.

Yes, the liquid diet got old quick. I did have enough nutrition though. I had a whole foods based protein powder I blended with fresh fruits and yogurt. Lots of soups. Lots of Greek yogurt. Orange juice. Chai and coffee. It wasn't too bad.

I ate scrambled eggs and cheddar cheese around week four. And cheese grits.

Have fun Bodhi with the ex-neighbor.

LA, it's good you have fireman to hang out with. If you didn't have the ex, you wouldn't have your son. Unfortunately, one goes with the other.

I'm about to go retrieve my daughter from the party. Which was extended another half hour. I'm sure she won't want to go when I get there. And when I get back from the spaghetti dinner, there'll be MORE pages to catch up on.

It is at an AA club. I go to meetings to meet people. I haven't worked the steps. I have gone to social events and they've been fun. I don't sit with the people who beat me over the head with the big book. Or bug me about sponsorship. Guess it depends on the meeting. Open meetings are the best for just hanging out Jen.

Yay! I went for a walk in our glorious weather, going around a pretty lake that is very near my home. I think it reached 58 here today.

Boo! After that, I killed an entire order of beignet.

Bodhi, thanks for the reminder. "Amy" has been on my to-watch list so I'm going to get it on demand as soon as "Filthy Cities: Revolutionary Paris" is over. Holy buckets!

Ruby - yeah, I always think "at least I have son". And ex can rant and rave as much as he likes, he did this too himself. It was nothing I did, I simply defended myself when I got dragged into the mess. If he had done nothing wrong, there would be nothing to defend against. Of course, he see's it differently!

Oh well, have a good night everyone, we are off to the casino!

Evening gang! I hope everyone is keeping well.

Trying to catch up. My, how the thread has been busy.

Got some tasks completed today with junior in tow, basking in the mild spring sunshine.

If I was hungover, I would not leave the house and would be counting the hours until I could have my first drink.

Giving cursory attention to the election results. Might go to bed soon.

I'm going to shower and go get a chai and hopefully shake the yuckies.

Just one of those days.

Showering seems to help things seem better, Melina hope it helps.

GS...I'm still recuperating from a sick migraine last night. Tummy still a little queasy but godson will be here soon. I did walk out on the patio for a minute. Hard to believe it's February! Glad your eye is better!

Had a weird dream where my family was going to some big celebration dinner for my ex husband.....like betraying me or something. Weird cause I never dream about him anymore and my family couldn't stand him.

LA: that was what happened with my friends ex.
HE created the whole situation and everyone was doing damage control.
He acted offended that people were actually not letting him get away with it.

Well it stopped raining and now the sun is shining.
I love sunshine after the rain.
I think I might go back to the river and do the walk again
Gonna have homemade falafels tonight.

Greetings from the Long Saturday night of the Galway West count.

I never had any interest in politics before but now I do for some reason.
No candidates have been elected here yet and the Seventh Count will be the last count of the evening and counting will recommence at 9am after a good night's sleep, a bowl of porridge and the clear heads on us
No, I am not there but I have been glued to my phone all evening!

Ireland's government is parliamentary. The main governing body is called the Dail Eireann and it's equivalent to the U.S. House of Representatives, or the House of Commons. They elect the Taoiseach or Prime Minister. Sounds easy doesn't it...but...no. Ireland has four main parties and seven more smaller ones. In order to get a majority, two or more parties must form a coalition. It's a bit like a cross between horse trading and 'let's make a deal'.
Now that you know the bad part, here's the good side which outweighs it in my opinion. All the electioneering and debates take place during the month preceding the election. It saves much of the rancour that would result from months of campaigning. There's a limited time for the politicians to get their opinions across and it saves an awful lot of money.
By tomorrow hopefully it will all be over and the political pundits will criticise the campaigns. The winners will try not to gloat too much and the losers will shed some tears and lick their wounds.

Here is a nice article that was on our local news site:

You can see it in their eyes, the sadness, the disappointment. There are candidates who came here to NUI Galway today knowing in their hearts of hearts that they were not going to make it. That the field was too crowded, that their chances were slim against a field packed with heavyweights.

Yet it still hurts when your name is called out with a number after it.

And when your opponents’ names are called out with numbers that are a multiple of what you got.

And your number says to you — “out of the tens of thousands of people whose vote you sought, this is the actual number that you convinced.” But that is not really the case, but try telling yourself that.

It might sound cliche-ed but it takes some guts to stand up before people and ask for their vote.

Some of the greatest fears we have are those fears of failure; and that creates a desire in us to avoid situations where you may or may not appear as a winner. That you may appear to have lost an argument.

That you have put forward an argument to thousands of people and that argument has been rejected.

What makes it more galling for those who have lost is that in politics, in many cases their argument is not listened to, because people come to choosing politicians from a variety of journeys.

So what do you say to candidates who have bombed. Better luck next time? Next time may be five years down the road.

Or five months.

But whichever, the situation may have changed

Is running in an election and losing an experience that will stand by you when you next run?

Elections are often determined by circumstances. Events, dear boy, events.

The events of the short and often dull campaign influenced many to vote they way they did. Moments of madness from some politicians. So you can never be sure of anything.

I’ve spoken to three politicians today who have lost, and they all did so with tears in their eyes.

Because it still bloody hurts.

But the greatest test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing heart. You've got to get to the stage in life where going for it is more important than winning or losing.

The three candidates who spoke to me with tears in their eyes will be back, because they want to reverse that feeling.

What we need are more people willing to take on the challenge without fear of failure and with genuine hope of winning.

But as one of those candidates sat near me in the College Bar as I wrote this article, the national news broadcast announced the election of someone who has been accused of corruption.

And as that victor was carried shoulder high elsewhere in the country, the feeling of disapointment for the local candidate was even more obvious.

And you had to hope that the desire to continue to make a contribution was not crushed ever more.

We must accept finite disappointment, but never lose infinite hope.

Didn't go to river again but I did manage to go up and down those horrible stairs I mentioned twice.
There's 128 of them

I am not sure if this is real or not but it was on a local news site and I thought it was very funny.
The amusing thing is that my mom was watching the election coverage on Sky News (English TV station) this evening and she was complaining that Sky News are making the Irish look like complete imbeciles, but I think we are capable of doing that all by ourselves!

Mayo is a county in Ireland and not just Hellman's
