Hi I'm trying to figure out what someone might be smoking . The jar used for ashes smells like vinegar and something plastic like bandaids, not like ashes at all.

Does this sound like it could be from Crack Cocaine? Would someone roll it, maybe with some pot?

I've been wondering if it's from heroin but am beginning to wonder if heroin would be smoked rolled like a joint. Could it be Crack?

Never heard of anyone rolling up crack, but it does smell like plastic when smoked.

It doesn't sound like crack. Ashamed to say I have smoked that. However I never put it in a joint.

Thanks for these responses! I wonder how many people using a hard drug would answer anything other than "No of course I'm not". If he is not using he'd reply no and if he is using he'd reply no. I have asked and he denies he's using anything, but he may not want me to know he using and spending all that money. He's hiding something stronger than pot, he's openly smoked pot in front of me for decades so it's more than that.

My younger brother was addicted to crack at one point in his life he smoked it I feel to ask him il call him soon & get bk to you xx

I just called him & he said crack smells more like vanilla than vinegar he didn't think it was crack

Like I said, I've smoked crack. I agree with SW, unless it has something weird as a cut.

As for him denying it, I know that I would have when I was using.

I hope you get it figured out.

You are dealing with some one whom you believe to be taking hard drugs and hiding it from you. If your belief is correct, does the actual substance make any difference for now? Surely there are other more important issues to deal with.

Okay, I did some googling and apparently heroin residue smells like vinegar. The other smell could be from whatever it's cut with.

But I really don't even know how I would approach this situation...I feel for you. Is he showing any other signs other than being secretive? Are his pupils constricted?

I agree with Fabat. Doesn't really matter what it is - eventually his behavior will change dramatically, things will start disappearing, etc. etc.

That's a good point Fabat, finances for one. I don't know why I need to know, maybe to determine how addictive or dangerous the substance is. He's been making unexplained disappearances while we've been out walking in the bush for about 7 or 8 years. Letting me ski down a hill that takes me about 10 seconds and he doesn't come down for 5 minutes, claiming he came down right after me...I could go on...the end result being we no longer walk or ski together, something we used to do every day together. I find the disappearances too disturbing.

I just totally get why you're asking.
Theres a huge difference between smoking pot and smoking heroin.
I'd definitely be doing research too

If it is heroin or any other opiate, it is very addictive and it will probably only get worse. The body builds up a tolerance over time and requires more to achieve the same effect.
All street drugs can be dangerous, you don't know what is actually in it or the potency.

Thanks so much Ariesagain. I haven't taken a good look at his pupils. The behaviour that I wonder if it's a sign is some mood crashes. Is that when he isn't getting the drug he wants I wonder. We have a cottage I don't go to with him alone any more because of one such crash. Or we've been out of town and he was so high strung I couldn't enter a restaurant with him to meet family, I felt he'd snap at me or our kids and embarrass me...and 2 days later stood up while bridal presents were being opened in a home and yelled I just want to get out of here....just times when I now wonder was he so pent up because he's craving whatever it is.

I'm really appreciating all these comments.

It could also be crystal meth. Also a highly addictive drug.
