Any experience using meds for withdrawal?

So Google can have its downside. I was prescribed gabapentin, can anyone share their experiences with it during the first few days of withdrawal? It sounds like it's very hard to come off of. I only have a small amount so hopefully won't have an issue.

Just looking for real experiences and quit scaring myself on Google

Thanks for any replies

Hi there, I was prescribed gaba when I came off Xanax. I took it for a few weeks but it didn't help with the anxiety so I just quit taking it. I didn't get "high" from it nor did I ever get addicted to it. A lot of people do find that it helps them. I also know several people in recovery who have nerve damage and take gaba...they are not addicted and do not abuse it either. Hope this helps.

I have no experience I'm afraid.
Have you considered seeing a real doctor?

no, I just meant not Dr Google, that's all

I'd probably go back to the prescribing doctor if you're concerned

I get you now. I'm just going to take them as prescribed and make a follow up appointment with my regular doctor next week. I was just looking for any first hand experience.

yes have used valium under medical supervision to detox from alcohol.

alcohol withdrawal if severe can be fatal so for me it has been necessary

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

I used homeopathic "meds" including GABAnol and had no troubles.

Similar name, but I dunno if it's a homeopathic equivalent.

Question: Did you get yourself scared by reading side effects and negative reviews on Google? I try to avoid that kind of thing 'cuz it causes hypochondria. But if you really are having a bad reaction, you can always reach back out to the prescribing doc.

Hi I was prescribed that medication and felt no effects. None at all. However, if your doctor has prescribed them I would follow his or her suggestions. Do ask about medications to help with cravings though- Capral or Naltrexone.

Yes, got myself worked up on Google. I feel better about it though. I'm not sure if it's doing anything but I know it's not a magic pill. If it helps a bit with my nervous system firing off like crazy and helps with the chance of seizing, I'll take it!

Thanks for all the replies and support!

Gabapentin is not a homeopathic medicine.

It's very safe when used as prescribed and the horror stories are the minority, honestly. You will be safe using it short term as suggested by the doctor.
