Open meetings anyone can go...closed meetings are for alcoholics only. You would be ok to go to either or both.

this explains a lot of the usual questions about meetings:

If you are thinking about going to AA because of your drinking, I would go to a closed meeting.

At a closed meeting 100% of the people are there because they have a desire to stop drinking. At an open meeting you will have a percentage of people there who are family and friends of the people with the drinking problems. And my perception is that open meetings are not as "anonymous" as closed, for me that's important.

At a closed meeting, at the beginning , when the chair asks if anyone is attending a meeting for the first time, raise your hand and admit it. They will welcome you with open arms and likely hold a newcomers meeting for you.

The only requirement for being a member is a desire to stop drinking. Go to a closed meeting and listen to what they say.

Thank you all.

Thank you all for your great answers and advice, especially when I feel like poop this morning.
Things have to change for me soon.
Have a great day.

Instead of 'soon' why not 'now', Augustine?

Is there a meeting locally today?

Hi Dee74,
You of course are right, I on the other hand was not right today felt horrible when I woke and while thankfully not drunk and with no plans to be I did have a glass of wine.
I plan to contact someone tomorrow that has offered help with AA have found several meetings I can make it do on a daily basis.
I will start now.
Thank you for reaching out to me.

AA is great. I can't stay sober, they can't stay sober, but together we CAN stay sober!
