REAL breakthroughs

Hey all,

First of all, I have a bad flu. I couldn't stand running back and forth from my bed to the bathroom anymore, so I got out of bed. Naturally, I logged in here.

Don't rely on me responding reliably in this period though. :) I might end up in bed at a moment's notice.

But my brain is still functioning. And I've been thinking about something that I think is very important.

Real breakthroughs vs. breakthroughs that don't last, OR aren't good enough.

Let me explain. Sometimes you will have a breakthrough in your recovery. It is solid, it is real and you know it. It helps you and it's the kind of thing you KNOW right away won't go away.

Then there are breakthroughs that are of the type: I feel suddenly much better and different, I will be sober forever! Those can be traps.

You do feel better and different. And they do help you. But not to the extend the "real" breakthroughs do. They are even an opportunity for your AV to trick you.

Being very mindful of what is going on with you is key here. A real breakthrough is undeniable.

The different kind, let's call them shifts, are tricky. AV may use them as a way to get you back to using.

What is important is that those shifts ARE useful and good, IF you see them for what they are and use them correctly.

It's a tricky thing but very important to be mindful of.

Anyway, I'm sick out of my mind, so I might seem like I'm rambling. But I hope it makes sense. Otherwise I might have to get into it when I'm better.

Ok, I'm going to stay logged in, but I won't be here all the time. As I said, I'm pretty sick, so I'll go with what feels best.

I think I'll be sick for a while. I might disappear for a while.

The reason that I say this, is because I remember a post called "That sinking feeling". In which the author described that it feels bad when someone is gone from the forum and they worry about them.

I don't want anyone to worry. I just had a sandwich and a glass of water which ended up being flushed down the toilet. :) So I know I need to rest and heal. And I know the flu can last for weeks. And I don't want anyone to be worried.
