Have to do this

I posted here almost three years ago. At that point in time I made it 29 days and then thought I could moderate. We know what happened next. I have had a few weeks here and there sober since then but nothing sticks. I am hoping to end this battle and get healthy. I know I need a plan to make this work. I haven't had a drink since Sunday so this is day 2. I feel o.k., just very tired and depressed. I am not sure what to do with myself. Drinking is what I did with everything. I know I need to find things to fill the space but I don't feel like doing anything. I hope it is normal in the beginning. Fact is that I have never made it long enough to find out. I have been drinking for 22 years. I am 40 now and hate the fact that I wasted all of those years. I will be reading a bunch on here and looking for inspiration in all of you who have been through the same things.

Welcome!

If you are 40 and have been drinking 22 years, that's over half your life. That's a deeply ingrained habit that's going to be hard to change. You are going to need to make some significant behavior and attitude changes to stay sober. That's certainly possible, but in my experience it's really hard to do by yourself.

This website can help, but for me I also needed to add some face to face support. I used AA, but there are other options that folks will suggest. Good luck to you.
