Imagine someone aiming a gun at your head and you know they will shoot if you don't do it. Well, that won't happen.
Imagine a bottle of alcohol aimed at your brain, throat, stomach, liver and all the other places it hits. And they are telling you that if you don't do that, you get will cancer in one or more of those places. Or other horrible diseases.
Wait a minute... that last one is actually realistic.
Get your ass moving man! Seriously though. Dedicate yourself to it. One step at a time. No stress, just go through it.
If you're not willing to do the work, your outlook is pretty grim my friend.

Went to a meeting tonight .. didn't get a single thing out of this particular one. All they wanted to say .. 5 speakers in a row .. was that God lifted their desire to drink.
Needed a good meeting, the desire to drink was at its strongest today.. am fortunate to have made it through though.. pure desire not to lose my 6 days ... day 7 tomorrow.

Congrats on your week Grendhar.
Just an idea but maybe you could engage a couple of these guys afterward and find out what they mean by that?....
or if that approach is not for you look around for people who 'have what you want'?

Day 8 started a couple hours ago.
Yesterday was tough .. didn't feel right and it was making me want a drink. Thought through what the problem was and realized that even though I hadn't had alcohol in 7 days .. I was drinking a lot of coffee and almost no water ... sure enough, bought a large bottle of water and within an hour I was feeling normal again.

Going out to a restaurant with my girlfriend and her family .. there will be beer at the table. I am going because when I was still drinking I would turn down any invites because I wanted to drink alone at home. I'm going because it will make her happy, I haven't put any effort into spending any time with her family.
Just going to be strong .. I see signs for beer all over the place .. on stores, on beer trucks, I even drive by a budweiser factory with a huge lit up blue sign every night. Can't hide from it .. but don't have to drink it.
Maybe it's a bit early to have to actual stuff right in front of me .. but I won't make a habit of having it that close to me.
I will order an ice water.
Will check in again when I get home from the restaurant. Day 9 tomorrow.

Hi Grendhar;
Just wanted to say I think you are really doing a great job with your 8 days,
and in trying to connect with your GF's family, posting here, and reaching out.
I know you said that's hard for you, but it looks like the effort you are making
is paying off.
Keep up the good work and congrats on the first week of many in your new sober life
