Can I do This?

I have been going to regular AA meetings, but I recently relapsed. I feel so bad because I violated my father's trust, I am living with him while I recover. Have been searching for jobs but not many open within 30 miles that fit my law degree.

If I can do it...anyone can do it. I really thought I was beyond help. Yet here I am...sober!

I am seeing a psychiatrist and have been put on mood stabilizers. I have manic depressive tendencies, mostly the mania. I have sent out job apps to the State and Local governments.

When you want to be sober more than you want to drink, then you'll be able to stay sober. Not easy, but simple.

yes... you can absolutely do it.

For me, the meetings were one part...

Are you reading the Big Book?

Are you working the steps? Have you asked anyone for a First Step workbook? (Hint - there are plenty online if you're not quite ready to reach out to someone or ask for a sponsor).

Are you making other CHANGES?

Are you starting each day with a heartfelt CHOICE that today you'll embrace sobriety as fully as you possibly can?

Are you taking ACTION to reinforce and honor that choice?

These are the things that did it for me.... the meetings were an anchor. A place for insight, face to face time, understanding, a feeling of not being alone, learning, support and an action-based change to my ritual and routine....

But the meetings didn't get me sober.

It's happened nothing will change the past but we can be present moving forward into the future I'd go back to AA and maybe add more meetings

you can do this

So you failed. I've failed too. A few times.

Get up and get going again. You can do it. Will you?

I am. I'll be looking around here for you.

Hi magilla - welcome back

it's good you're seeing a counsellor and applying for jobs

Sometimes I think recovery plans need to be a little more specific tho and target why we drink and what we can do instead?

there's some good links here:
