Terrible anxiety and cant sleep

I everyone, I'm having a tough night. It's currently 2:30am and I'm in a terrible state. Can't sleep, anxiety levels horribly high and scared about the future. Feeling like my whole world is caving in right now. Would be nice to have a little contact with the outside world

Sorry you're going through a rough night. The middle of the night is often the worst time. Try to calm yourself by breathing slowly. Do you have any tea, a good book, some calming music? I'm sure things will seem brighter in the morning.

Hang in there, Solow. Remember your Serenity Prayer. Be well.

Hi, solow. I agree with Anna; sleeplessness and nighttime seem to magnify anxiety. How about a warm, aromatic bath? And Anna's suggestions for tea and a book - hope you fall asleep, solow.

My anxiety at night during withdrawal was so high i thought the world was going to end. A warm bath with epsom salts helped me. Hang in there.

While it seems hard to believe, this to shall pass.

If you are newly sober, sleep is going to be hard to come by for awhile. If you are just laying in bed, letting your anxiety consume you, get up and do something.

I hung out on this website in the middle of the night a few times when I was first getting sober. I found out that lack of sleep didn't kill me, it just made me really tired. And my sleep improved within a couple of days.

My anxiety was through the roof for 2.5 months after quitting in 2014. Basically because of the lack of sleep my brain wasn't able to start healing. Have you gone to your doc? I was put on an antidepressant (works for anxiety too) and also given a sleep aid which gave me the sleep my mind and body needed. Was still anxious waking up but it was much more manageable with a good night's rest. Hang in there!

Hi solow, I hope you finally got some sleep. Are you detoxing? If so, could your dr give you a bit of librium to help? Other than that, I've found these fabulous guided sleep meditations on youtube. There's one that's kind of a hypnosis and it works great. I just cue up my iphone and listen until I fall asleep. It'll quiet your nerves and calm your mind. (I can't do regular meditation, but I love guided!)

Anxiety and sleplessness can be horrible, solow. I hope you managed to get some rest.

I've had many nights like that, and I am often going to the SR chat just to interact with people in real time. Helps me a lot

It took me a while after getting sober to finally be able to sleep well. But it does get better.

Great to hear Solow. You're going to be ok. Stay sober, work through it. Its going to be fine in the end.

I've had several nights where I resigned myself to reading the whole night. If you're not able to sleep, it's great if you accept it early on and and not work yourself up more trying and failing over and over.

This may be obvious to you, but I feel that I should bring it up anyway--your lack of sleep can change your brain chemistry to cause further loss of sleep. I would highly suggest talking to your doctor about what you need to do nutritionally to help your mind and body heal from sleep deprivation. Even if it is just short term, it can beat you up in ways that would surprise you.
