Thumbs up Hello - first post

Currently on day 22 and my husband is on day 29. Been reading SR. for a couple of months and this has helped me to get to where I am now. Sober and much happier. Me and H have drank for many years 20 +. Both had an alcoholic parent (dad's) and grew up in an area were drinking alcohol is culturally accepted as the norm. We were both very good at it !!! However, I have known for years that my relationship with alcohol was unhealthy and as time has gone by drinking began to impact negatively upon our lives so here we are. Our plan, to never drink again. To never pick up the first drink everyday. Things I've learnt so far on SR. which are helping. AV. This has always thrown me in the past as I have always relapsed and thought I was incapable of living without alcohol. Filling free time with positive non alcoholic activities. Reading, I Pad, movies. Got 3 children so rarely go out but that's fine we enjoy staying in and go out often doing family things during the day.

Anyway, glad to be here. Want to post to stay accountable and am finding this site very motivating and supportive. So hello everyone !!!

Thank you all for the support. Things I don't miss. Having to "fit my drinking in" around everyday life. No matter how busy, tired, poorly. Still had to have that bottle of wine even if I felt sick drinking it. Now feel much more relaxed which is unbelievable as I would have sworn that it was the wine that kept me calm and helped me relax each evening. That's the AV though isn't it. Telling me lies !!!! Only downside so far has been the constant chocolate eating. So not me but can't get enough of it at the moment. Not gonna worry too much about that for now though.

Hi fgu,

The best advice I ever read here....

It gets better every day.

Depending on how hard you drank and how long you drank the anxiety will tempt and trick you and your h.

I had stints of sobriety....5 days, 9, 14, 27...each relapse...didn't know at the time they were relapses...got harder to deal w. The anxiety got stronger each time.

Stay clean and proud.

Smile

I ate a whole packet of sour snakes today and I don't like sweets all that much. Sugar. You sound like you've done your research well and ended up in a really good place. Welcome Fgu.

Thanks again for all the helpful replies. It feels reassuring knowing there are many people out there who have similar experiences and struggles with alcohol.

FGU, one more thing to think about. Make sure that you are getting sober for you. That way if your husband ends up drinking, hopefully he won't, you will still be doing this for you.
