Miss the madness

Hi everyone my names Angie and I'm new to this forum I'm clean and sober for 7 months I attend AA meetings about 4 times a week and I go to aftercare at once a week at the treatment centre I attended
I I don't intend to drink but lately I'm missing the madness the excitement I know that sounds insane an maybe that's what I am the last few days also I'm craving the attention I used to get when I was in active drinking I am married and my family support me I know I'm being selfish and sound like a brat but I don't seem to get half as much attention from being good as I did when I was bad any advice anyone Ive just found someone to go through the steps with an I'm meeting her this week also the big friendship thing that I thought I was going to get from AA meetings doesn't seem to be happening

Friendships take time to develop and we always want a quick fix. Be a friend to make friends. It will happen if you work on it. Get through those steps and get to know yourself. Keep working with that sponsor. Everything will fall into place!!!

Glad you are here at Sober Recovery!!

Welcome to the Forum Angie!!

For me it took time to rebuild my life, find new things to be excited about, new interests, new routines, but it will happen eventually, we can still have excitement and enjoy ourselves without alcohol, it can be done!!

Lot of excitement as an alcoholic, divorce, children disowning you, jail, losing your license, liver cirrhosis, injuries, job loss. Why walk away from the non stop good times?

Focus on the negatives active drinking brought into your life. What were your reasons for quitting? Try not to fall into the trap of looking back at your drinking days through rose tinted spectacles.

Working through the steps should help you with this, so you're going in the right direction. Very well done on 7 months of sobriety, that's amazing!!

You say that you are missing the attention. What kind of attention did you get when you were drinking?

The only attention I used to get was negative... people cringing, hurt, angry and pitying me or laughing at me but not in a nice way.

Congratulations on the 7 months!!!!!!

I think just being the center of attention when I first got sober life still revolved around me I know it's wrong to want that but I'm just being honest with how I feel today

It's easy to that it was all good times when I can't remember half of them ... I've got a blank page I can fill in with with my own narrative.

If you're using Google Chrome, Java chats won't work. Try Firefox?

Click on the user name and click on "friend request" in the drop down menu.

At first I missed the madness, but after I got used to be sober and waking up feeling good, I stopped missing it. It helped me also to make a gratitude list every day of the things I was grateful for. Gave me a whole new perspective.

Hi Sooty and Welcome,

One thing that really helped me with new friendships was volunteering. I really needed to get outside of myself. Maybe that's something you could think about.
