Cirrhosis at a YOUNG age

I was at the barber today and she mentioned that cirrhosis is becoming a huge problem on the reservation she lives on. KIDS age 24 are dying from cirrhosis. It's a huge problem because they see older people sitting around and drinking so they do it as well. A girl who is 22 was just diagnosed with end stage cirrhosis. My barber goes over to this girls house and still sees many empty gallon bottles of vodka. She is still drinking. Doesn't care. Doesn't work. Doesn't have anything to live for. It is incredibly sad. It is sobering to hear. And I was thinking to myself I am so glad I am not hearing this hungover.

Addiction is a scary thing to see up close.

When not even the possibility of death can stand in the way of another drink . . . it can be heartbreaking!!

What a very tragic story, reality, and situation.

Did she mention if anything was being done to combat the problem?

Reservation life is sad and very difficult. This is nothing short of tragic and an extension of the genocide of our Natives.

They are continuing to drink. One of them doesn't have any family and the other is drinking despite her family's wishes. The one who already died drank pretty much until his last breath. Those are just three examples of the many cases on the res.

Sad story, I know people with lung cancer on oxygen who still smoke. Some people just can't give it up ever.

Yea life on a reservation is depressing. I remember hearing about even how the police on the reservations were depressed up here in Canada. The police were even committing suicide.

For any of you who followed this before...

The two young people with cirrhosis are not doing well... I saw my barber yesterday and asked about them...

The earlier you quit the better...
