Hello and help
It's not you being dumb. It's the denial, which is a huge part of alcoholism. When you stop drinking and look back, it's clear to you, but while in the midst of alcoholism, the denial runs free.

Again thank you so very much for your kind words of support. I feel so welcomed, hopefully the meeting on Friday will be just as warm.
I have been doing so much reading around and there is lots of support available. What are people's experiences with Rational Recovery? I read the stuff on the website and it's quite aggressively written! Whilst I understood the messages conceptually, the manner in which it's presented was a little terse in my opinion. I have really warmed to the Women in Recovery steps, but AA being so present in every city is a big plus for me. Does working through a mixture of programs work? Or do you advise sticking to one and throwing everything into that?

im in aa, but heres my opinion:
keep it simple. im glad youre lookin at options, but dont complicate making a choice.
then give it time to work
and by time i mean more than a week.
Welcome to SR, sadsadgirl!
When I realized I couldn't keep on drinking anymore, I thought my life was over. I went to AA and it got better for me beyond what I could have imagined.
Nothing to be afraid of at meetings. I kept an open mind and was willing to try anything to get me out of my misery. It might help to let someone know you are new because the most important person in a meeting is the newcomer.
