My AV was horrible

As the post states my AV went nuts today.

At the health food store I saw my favorite beer. It just made its way to where I live recently I guess and I haven't stopped thinking about it.

I wonder if it is the day, I had a few thoughts about a glass of wine today. I didn't, but the thought popped into my head several times throughout the day.

I went back to the beer section twice while at the store... Looking at the six pack and thinking man you love this stuff.

I didn't end up buying any. So not drinking but I'm kind of a wreck.

There's nothing so special or so magical about your favorite beer that it won't set you back just as badly as any other beer.

Our poisons are our poisons. Period.

Glad you didn't buy the six-pack, jryan. Keep showing your AV who's boss.

If you have made a commitment to quit drinking, then the AV is not you anymore. It is a leftover from your drinking days, a reflex that you can choose to ignore. It won't hurt you if you ignore it. In fact, the only way it can hurt you is if you choose to believe what it says and do what it wants.

Identifying these drinking thoughts as AV is a big part of the battle, JRyan. You got the rest, too, I am sure. The only thing you need to do is nothing at all!

Hope you keep posting.

I feel you. My AV was pretty strong today as well. But one thing I have realized about cravings is that they always go away, always. You just have to let them go and know that you don't have to act on them.

A big pat on the back for not taking the beer home for you. What an internal battle it is...to drink/to not drink. I am on day 2 and haven't been sober for more than 2 weeks in over 6 years. I know this battle all too well. I guess the one thing that I am trying to think about it the repercussion of my drinking...how will I feel afterwards? It takes a strong person to say NO and a weak person to say YES.

Good job!

If you are like me, I don't like anyone telling me what to do or influencing my decisions. I like to show the AV who is boss!

Good job on shutting that down. I love what someone once said to me here: "there has never been a morning I woke up and thought 'I wish had not drunk last night'" (no lie, I just had to pull out my teaching books and look up the past participle of "drink"… I digress)
I know it is frustrating, particularly when those "special" moments or drinks present themselves. But that beer is in the past. You can let it go and move on, I know you can.

Yeah I am better today.

I am gluten free, and there is not much good gluten free beer. So when I saw this I was incredibly tempted since I could only get it before on the east coast.

But yeah that coupled with quitting smoking probably gives me more fits than I would like.

But better today. Thanks for asking.

Looking at the six pack and thinking man you love this stuff.
Read back through all your threads - even today when you're feeling better.
Destroy the itch before it itches again.

You may be convinced you love the stuff (thanks for nothing AV) but look at the reality, jryan?

Thoughts on there on Jryan don't cause hangovers, we have the choice as to whether to act on them or not!!

. . . decide and say no more!!

When I was in the supermarket a couple of weeks ago I walked past the isle of alcohol and battled AV to not go down it, I then had an idea that luckily worked for me! I turned round and slowly walked down the isle picking up my favourite drinks and reading the label, I then picked up a very expensive very nice bottle of malt whiskey and put it in my basket (trying not to smile), I then did the rest of my shopping and at the end went back to the alcohol isle put the bottle back and started laughing, saying in my head "tricked you, I will never drink again", the feeling was great, I was smiling while I got served.

Hey jryan! I'm glad you're doing better today. It stinks when those thoughts intrude. I had many moments in the beginning where I stood. And stared. At my favorite wine. And walked away. And came back. And walked away.

You did it! Hurrah!

Yesterday was better... no temptations. I think it is mostly weekends when I have more time on my hands... weekends when I would start drinking early in the day because I could.
