I found the forum lastly year and signed up but didn't have the courage to quit until now. I'm 26 and actually a student in healthcare well aware of all the risks of alcohol but I did it anyway. After 4 years of increasing abuse which thankfully didn't cost my professional life but has dramatically impaired my friendship with my best friend I'm finally calling it quits. Presently I'm not seeking professional aid due to time constraints and hope everyone here can help me as you have helped countless others to defeat this evil before it destroys my life. I'm incredibly blessed with a wonderful lifestyle and future career and I want to make sure I make the most of what the universe has given me rather than throw it all away and descend into madness. As I was making the decision to overcome this I also developed a generalized Itch randomly allover the body. I'm aware liver disease may cause this and can only hope it's not damaged enough to fail to recover.

Welcome to the family. :) Itching is one of the symptoms of withdrawal. If you stopped drinking, that might be why you're itching. It goes away the longer you are sober. If it is worrying you, see your doctor for blood tests of the liver. That can put your mind at ease. :)

You'll find a lot of support and useful info here. I give SR a lot of the credit for my six years sober. I hope we can help you as well. :hug:

If the itching is worrying you it makes sense to see a Dr just to check it out. I think it's fair to say there are many more mundane things it could be besides a failing liver, but it would be good to set your mind to rest.

Thank you guys! I know an itch likely doesn't present with the host of other 20 different symptoms of liver disease so I'm likely paranoid but if it helps me stay sober then so be it! I intend to get bloodwork done in a few weeks. Right now everything would be elevated so it would be useless but a few weeks of abstinence should help bring things down. The challenge is the abstinence part of course. I have read so many stories here and am convinced that regular participation will assist in me getting over this. Looking forward to getting to know the posters on this forum on my long path to recovery. I consider myself incredibly fortunate for having found this forum.

I was around your age when I first began to have real problems with alcohol - but I chose to do nothing about it. As a result, my life fell apart years later. None of the awful things that happened needed to - it was all so preventable. I'm happy you won't have to suffer the way many of us have - you can do it! :)

Nice to see some more young people! Glad your here. I'm 25 and I find a lot of support here at SR.

I think I'm still in the "young" category going on 34, but I am still incredibly jealous of people nipping it in the bud in their 20s. The only thing we can all do now is just guarantee yourself it won't be present in your next month, year, decade.
