I need help
My life has spiraled out of control since a serious car accident. I self medicated with vodka to put an end to the physical and psychological pain. I feel so lost and am hoping to find some relief here.

You are in the right place, a lot of support here.
I was also in an accident and drinking daily just to stop shaking and get to feeling half normal.
I quit a month ago and am doing well now.
I put myself in a treatment program to help me as I do this.
I know I will be able to deal with my situation if I remain sober.
Drinking will only bring more disaster for me.
So I wish you strength and resolve.

Hi Frances! Welcome to the group! You'll find lots of support here and help, if you want that. Sorry to hear about your accident. You say you self medicated with vodka after the accident. Had you self medicated on other occasions, that is used alcohol for other than social reasons? Ever felt that once your drinking started you could not stop it, or had a hard time doing so? If you ask yourself questions like this it may help you figure out what comes next. And it may help us to make suggestions if you want them. But if you just want to keep posting and read some of the posts that come in all the time that's completely O.K. We all give you a big handshake and hearty welcome!

Perhaps the vodka is a new thing for you? It sounds like it's getting old fast.
Read lots and give yourself time to absorb the information. One thing to note is that though the alcohol will relax muscles and numb pain, it interferes with both sleep and healing so it's not even a good medication.
