Became addicted to Alcohol 2 years ago
Hi,
I'm new here and just wanted to introduce myself. I never had what society would consider a problem with alcohol until two years ago. At that time, I was pummeled by the universe with about five terrible events and subsequently diagnosed with PTSD. Instead of drinking socially, which is what I had always done, I started drinking alone for the first time in my life. The height of the problem peaked probably a year ago when I would down an entire handle of whiskey and I only weighed 130lbs. I'm recovering (I think) but appreciate having access to a community where I can be open and honest about this journey, instead of hiding it like I usually do.
Best,

Recovering like you are sober now?
A handle of liquor for ANYONE is a lot to drink. Even a 300 lb Russian dude who ohas drank vodka since birth would be plowed after that.
Welcome to the site. Hope you find some good things here to help you stay sober.

Welcome vns! Not sure what a handle is but it sounds like a lot. You're in the right place. I too found myself unable to function w/out it and drank alone. This side of the fence is new but navigatable with the help of the resources here and especially the folks who have been there and prevailed. Stick around.

I've cut back to zero starting tonight after tapering down from 1.5 bottles of wine a night to 1 glass. The handle of whisky a night was a miserable time for me.
You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

So today is your Day 1? Awesome! Make a plan for how to fight any thoughts, temptations, situations, urges that might cause you to drink again.
And if you get an urge, post here right away. I did last night and everybody piled on right away with support. I got out of it with my 19 days of sobriety intact!
Glad to hear you're breaking free.
