Anyone had any experience with Campral
I know this isn't the place for medical advice, but I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience with Campral.
My Dr has put me on this, and I have arranged monthly appointments with the GP, along with a mental health plan with a psychologist.
The medication is only part of the process. I know I need to take a holistic view on my recovery. Has anyone found it to help?

Hi,
I took Campral for a while and loved it. It was the boost I needed to get my recovery going. I did not notice any side effects personally, maybe slightly more frequent urination but I also do drink a lot of water, probably being less dehydrated due to not drinking had something to do with that as well.
Be aware that the dosage is based on weight, if you are right on the cusp your doctor may start you out at the lower dosage. If you don't notice a difference at all, tell her. She may then up your dosage and you can see if you notice anything then. I was on the cusp and the lower dosage did nothing, once it was upped I noticed a big difference in my ability to manage cravings.
I also noticed that if I missed a dosage or didn't take it during the right timeframes I noticed a near immediate effect, so do follow your doctors orders.

Hi there - I'm on Campral and have had good success with it. I noticed a relief from cravings pretty quickly and for me I had pretty strong cravings, so Campral was a good medicine for me! I take a lower dose since I'm a smaller person and it has done a good job for me. No side effects, either. Good luck!

Thanks Dea74. Just trying to navigate my way through the site.
Appreciate your help.
It has already helped, I signed up before work yesterday, than came home and logged on instead of getting a drink when I really wanted to lol

Thanks Juno11.
I'm a medium person I guess...lol. Thanks for mentioning the dosage/weight.
I checked my packet and I have been taking one tablet three time a days, and my prescription say two. Woops.

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

I used Campral, but drank over it. The prescribing doc emphasized that it only works if you're abstinent, and it takes 5-8 days before reaching full effect. Unfortunately, I was unable to reach 5-8 days of sobriety at that point in time. So, I'm a very poor test of its effectiveness.
I looked up reviews of the drug online, and it appears to be very effective for many people!

I took it along time ago, and I remember it did work well. It does take a couple weeks to build up in your system. 3 doses a day I recall. Also I was told to get best results, use the Campal with additional support like AA. I think it is only used for the first few months to give a head start toward sobriety. Best Wishes
