Mine is from the Beatles song "Sun King."

The day I joined this site I was mentally stuck on the fact that I had (for decades) wanted to quit drinking alcohol, but despite that fact I really really desired alcohol.

At that time this dichotomy seemed nonsensical to me.

It makes perfect sense now that I understand addiction, but back then...

Over the years I've gotten tired of trying to come up with eye catching or meaningful usernames, so when I joined SR I just tried my name and my age at that time and it worked.

I am a beekeeper, Latin for honey is mel. Spanish is miel, Italian is miele, you get the picture...

And the day I joined I had this song in Spanish stuck in my head, it really seems to fit the pain I felt from drinking constantly to blackout seemingly against my will. I knew somewhere in my soul I could be free, but I was so scared. I used to sob, begging to be free..

Eres fuego de amor/you're the fire of love
luz del sol/light of the sun
volcán y tierra/volcano and earth
por donde pasas/wherever you pass by
dejas huella/you leave a mark

Mujer/Woman
tú naciste para querer/you were born to love
has luchado por volver/you've fought to return
a tu tierra y con tu gente/to your homeland and with your people
Has vuelto/you've returned

Melina
alza tus manos hacia dios/hold your hands up to God
que el escuche tu voz/so he can hear your voice

Has vuelto/you've returned
Melina
tus ojos reflejan el dolor/your eyes reflect the pain
y tu alma el amor/and your soul, the love

La huella de tu canto/the mark of your song
echó raíces/created roots
Melina
y vuelven a reír/and they return to laughter
tus ojos grises/your gray eyes
Melina

Tu vida y tu razón/your life and your meaning
es tu país/is your country
donde el mar se hizo gris/where the sea turned itself gray
donde el llanto/where the sobbing
ahora es canto/is now song

Has vuelto, Melina
alza tus manos hacia dios
que el escuche tu voz

Has vuelto, Melina
tus ojos reflejan el dolor
y tu alma el amor

La huella de tu canto
echó raíces
Melina
y vuelven a reír
tus ojos grises
Melina

My username is music oriented as well.

Cabron is a song by the Red Hot Chili Peppers on their By The Way disk.

It's a catchy acoustic riff with a happy vibe.

When I joined this forum I didn't have much to smile about and was terrified of facing a future that did not include alcohol.

The song is about breaking down gang barriers by understanding we actually have more in common than we do differences.

The lyric says

If only you knew
I'm just like you

Sort of like this forum where all the members are fighting a common battle and we're willing to share our struggles and success with hopes it will help another break free of the bondage of addiction.

Melina, this is one of my all time favorite songs. It reminds me of my childhood, as I often heard it growing up. In fact, when ever I see your username the song plays in my head. But it never ocurred to me that you might know it too. Cool.

Ha! Didn't know it's a song. In Spanish it's a really bad swear word. Lol!

I haven't heard it in a while, probably once or twice since I registered here. I looked it up today so I could translate it for this thread, and I got chills again.

I wasn't sober when I picked it, but the lyrics are true today for me as a sober woman. And now I have an anthem!

Where did you grow up? My friend's parents all listened to this kind of stuff, and Roberto Carlos (Le sigh, those lyrics all the time, gorgeous) Leo Dan, Jose Luis Perales and the oldies like that. Some of it I still have to avoid bc I used it as my sobbing music when I wanted to feel sad while completely trashed. Those mezcal and bonfire in the backyard kinda nights, you know?

I'm glad you like my name and the story behind it. Makes me feel like it was worth the drunken effort

Wow, you know all my childhood music! My background is mostly hispanic, thus the username in Spanish. Sobbing music is a great name for that whole scene. I didn't know other people got drunk to listen to music and cry. I too avoid some songs for that reason. Those are not memories I want to relive.

Dang, I wish now that I had an anthem too but the only dolphin song I can think of is the Flipper theme.

D.

I am always so scared of people finding out what I am. Not my circle of trust, they all know but I fear some people I have helped would loose faith in me if they knew. It may not be but that's my fear, harming those I have sworn to help. That's why I am JohnQPublic. Where I am from that's like a euphonium for the everyday person. I am everyone and no one.

My screen name is very much an aspiration rather than a description. Anyone who follows my posts will know that I am frequently impatient and can get annoyed. In fact, I was a bit impatient with my dear wife this morning. However, I have been patient about working a recovery programme and I'm amazed to see I've clocked up more than a thousand posts on here now.

I've always been real curious about member's usernames as well.

Mine doesn't mean anything. I hate coming up with usernames so I just used one from my email address. Redladyslipper is the name of a flower and I thought it sounded pretty.
