Mine?

After lurking for a week, I decided to take the plunge and join but couldn't come up with a screen name. Or, what did come to mind would be something that might be easily identified with me. I finally got exasperated with myself, looked around my living room and saw the word "Venecia" on something in my midst.

I just went with it. Some days I like it; most days I think it makes me sound like an overly prim school marm.

Oh well. In real life, I have the luxury of actually liking my name quite a bit so you win a few and lose few.
Like the Usual Suspects..

Mine is because I feel like I have a personal vendetta against alcohol.

Yeah thats my username for everthing but it seems to make more sense here because it describes my recovery like a back and forth up and down "see-saw" effect.

I was trying to think of a name that would be stealthy and strategery from the SNL skit came to mind. The word strategery always makes me smile.

It will, if you give it all your effort and make it your number one priority. I'm over six years now and my life is getting better day by day.

Blue light on the avenue
God knows they got to you
An empty glass, the lady sings
Eyes swollen like a bee sting
Blinded you lost your way
Through the side streets and the alleyway
Like a star exploding in the night
Falling to the city in broad daylight
An angel in Devil's shoes
Salvation in the blues
You never looked like an angel
Yeah yeah...angel of Harlem

AWESOME lyrics to one of the all time best songs..Angel of Harlem...being a U2 fan I've seen them several times in concert and I too remember seeing 'Rattle and Hum' at the theater when it came out....oh..the 80's!

Great to see other people here touched by the same band. I would've loved to have seen them in the 80s. I've only seen them once, but it was amazing. I never thought I'd have the chance to see them live. It was surreal. They never get old in my book.

When I joined the August 2009 Sobriety group there were about 50 people on the list, but no user names that started with Z. The numbers are the house number of my childhood home.

Don't
Want
To
Be
Drunk

Being a hunter and pecker on the keyboard it helped reinforce the idea when I first joined. So in the early offing it was an imperative directed to myself, now it's a declarative, hey it worked

I'd been on a cubscout camp out with my son the weekend before joining here - something I love doing with him. I live in Florida. It was the first thing I could think of.
Funny thing - when I tried to create a user name, I got a message that my IP address was blocked. I've wondered - but didn't want to know the answer!- If I'd previously created a user name and posted something inappropriate while drunk and been blocked. But I'll never know.
Love this thread!

Well, I suppose my user name is pretty self-explanatory, although at age 50 I may be pushing it with calling myself "girl". But it iwas shorter than FormerWineGrandma 😉

Song title by and artist name joe budden. Song fit my life at that time, and still does. He also had substance abuse problems and I feel connected to it.

When my husband and I met (28 years in May), we were at a bar/dance club. We were introducing ourselves, he (Ken) thought I said Barbie! That's when BarbieKen became an "item" All these years it kinda clicked with us, the nickname. So, it was a natural when it came to picking my screen name. especially since he just got 10 years in November, my sweet recovering alcoholic.

Hey!
I was in my 20's in the 80's when U2 came around in the U.S. I was living above a dry cleaning in a tiny studio with 2 other friends in their own little studio's. Party Central sort of thing. They were so fantastic as a rock band, and Bono ( how do WE say that name??) was such a passionate singer! U2 and Clapton is God all rolled up there at that time in my life. Great Memories for sure.

Mine is from the Beatles song When I'm 64, which reminds me that I do not want to have wasted any more of my life to drinking by the time I'm that age and I also want to survive to see 64! :-)
