I messed up

I've been drinking all day and now I'm paying for it. My anxiety has gotten the best of me. I have a prescription for Zoloft (100 MG) but it does very little. My heart is pounding out of my chest and I just want to cry.

Carrie, do you have anyone with you who could take you to the ER? If not, call 911 and get yourself checked out. They will be able to get you stabilized and prescribe meds to help you safely detox.

Get rid of any alcohol in the house and stop drinking now. Drinking will only make things worse.

Welcome Carrie - you made a good choice seeking help here. Zoloft is great but takes a few days to a couple of weeks to notice an improvement but it sounds like you need now. If you don't want to go to the ED, maybe have some herbal tea and an over the counter, natural sleep aid, like melatonin? NB: I am not a licensed health provider - just been where you are more than once and sharing what has worked for me. Definitely keep reading these forums and know you aren't alone!

Zoloft drug interaction warnings list anxiety as one of the complications of using alcohol with it.

It's unlikely that zoloft will be effective if you keep drinking. In fact, it'll more likely make your anxiety worse.

I'm sorry your drinking gain Carrie.
Unfortunately anxiety is pretty much par for the course for a lot of us.

Please stop drinking of you haven't already.

Breathing exercises have helped me a lot.

For some people, myself included, alcohol interferes with heart rhythms and can cause both low blood sugar and surges of adrenalin, so it will actually make your heart pound and it feels like anxiety when it can be more a biochemical reaction to the alcohol.

Please don't put anymore of that poison in your system and try to take deep breaths and maybe go for a walk, if you're safe to do that. Listen to some classical music?

If you continue to feel worse, call 911 or your nearest ER and talk to them about your symptoms.

Sending you a hug...

As others have said, your Zoloft will not work well when you are drinking. The anxiety from alcohol, which I remember very well, is absolutely horrible and the best way to deal with it is to stop drinking. You will feel so much better.

Lots of good counsel, Carrie.

Go to bed, get as much sleep as possible. Stay hydrated tomorrow and recommit to your sobriety.

This is hard work. I remember how hard it was.

You can do this. You really can.

I know that anxiety very well. It is torture so that's what kept me drinking. My benders were prolonged because I don't want face it.

Yes please stop drinking. Anxiety with drinking and withdrawal was the worst for me...I never want to forget that feeling as I never want to drink again..

I also think you should seek medical advice and get some help in detoxing safely... X
