10 Days (And Road Trip Home)
Minor milestone -- 10 days. The effectiveness of that amino acid therapy got tested today for sure. Long ride, very tired (the T in HALT) and an unpleasant client bugging me every half hour or so (the A in HALT). Still, I felt no inkling to drink. Inkling to strangle the client, perhaps, but no inkling to drink.
At any rate, the weather is holding so far and I'm in Gastonia, NC for the night.

If weather doesn't prohibit, I should be home late on Sunday. And, being self-employed there is both the urgency to get back to earning and the ability to control the pace. I'm going to try very hard to not let anything eclipse the importance of my sobriety!!!

Yuck. Poor sleep in a 2-star hotel last night. Woke late with a headache.
This would normally be a drinking occasion but the amino acid therapy has "corrected" that peculiar, irrational thought pattern that afflicts us: Happy? Great, let's have a drink! Can't sleep? No problem, a shot or 10 should make for a good slumber. Pissed off? A half pint should take the edge off. Sleep deprivation headache? Spike a bottle of Coke and hit the road anyway! Honest, comrades...those thoughts are gone.
Instead, I've got a cup of coffee, and will stop for gas on the way out. At the gas station I'll pick up some water and Motrin, and my friend who lives in Waldorf MD promises me a shoulder massage when I arrive this evening.
Today may not be euphoric, but it is get-throughable. Without booze.
