2nd attempt
Welcome!
There is lots of support and info here so keep reading and posting. You made it to 23 days which is great. Do you know what happened to make you drink at that point? Is there anything you can do to prevent that happening again?

I quit as my 50th birthday present to me then my dad fell ill and is still in the hospital. Guess I fell back on the booze as a crutch. It's not helping so here we go again.
But, you can learn healthy ways to deal with life's problems. Exercise can help in times of stress, music can be calming, playing with a pet, those are some of the things that can help you to get through tough times.

I'm right there with you sir! I had a couple days less than you and today I start again. I'm counting down each hour until this day is over with as the anxiousness is always tough to get through. I always seem to OK after I get past the first day but gosh it's hard.
Welcome! Recovery is based on a solid, workable plan. If I can do it anyone, YOU, can! You'll find SR is packed with the Friendship and resources to keep us going and living the life that we know is available if we work for it.
I'd think about what you could do differently this time M1A1 - what could you add to whatever you did to stay sober last time.
Give it all you have - don't underestimate this thing.
I'm sorry about your dad.

Hi M1A1,
Welcome to SR. You can quit and that's a great birthday present to yourself. I just turned 51. And my dad was recently in the hospital for a month with serious health issues. I thought about drinking because I felt awful about it but what stopped me was the thought that my dad wasn't drinking despite his health - why should I drink because my dad's health is bad? Drinking won't make my dad better. It won't make me feel better. And it robs me of valuable time with my dad and family. I wouldn't have been of any use to support my mother, or my father.
It is hard at first. But it is entirely doable. Come here often and read and post. Reach out. Learn from people who have been through it.
I hope your dad has a good outcome. I hope you do too.
