A Family Affair January 15th Weekender Part 2
He gives me all he has when I hug him. He can barely purr. What an amazing wonderful friend. I held his paw. He knows I am there but he is fuzzy. First thing we will go to the vet. I will take the ride first to speak about what will happen. Then come home and get him. I hope that he will still be here then. It's not up to me.

Lunar, that it totally cool!
Big S and Mesa, thanks for those great photos. Marty, I went to "The Big Short" and thought it was excellent. I hope you like it as much as I did. It is exasperating, though, to think about the message the movie conveys.
LA, Happy Birthday!
Ken, big hugs. Henry has been a good and loyal friend.

Ouch. Far less charming than providing air time for British rock in the '60s. Far less.
People also live in New Orleans, though I can see where some might get the idea it's a 24-hour-a-day party town. I have family there. Love it there. Lucky Plenny!
The other thing? Make sure you're well hydrated. Just water, no pop or sports drinks. It gets better, Jim.
HAF, LBrain, Sao and others are right, Tetra. This isn't your "forever" job but it is a ticket to independence. It's also much easier to find a job when you're working. Give it a year or two and you can move on. I wouldn't act coy -- others may not.

Venecia,
It's such a wonderful city. I keep to myself much of the time outside of work but as a creative person I feel 'plugged in' just by being here.
Thank you for not flipping out though. BECAUSE many friends of mine who don't live here react very strangely when I tell them I'm not good with the booze and I'm trying to quit. They think it's contrarian to do that here, and they think it's impossible.

Hi everyone,
Just saying hi, I tried to to catch up on all the posts, but I gotta run again.
Same old story, work and school.
Though my friend knows I'm super busy; and made me a takeout dinner plate I'm gonna swing by and collect as I head back to work.
That was really thoughtful.
Talk soon, I hope I don't have to work too late, I have 11 hour workday tomorrow with a 3 hour primatology class thrown in there
I shall survive I hope!
Xoxo

Awww Ken. Sorry about Henry.
The Big Short was very good. I liked it a lot. Fascinating and terrifying at the same time. Makes me want to start stuffing my money in my mattress or keep it in mason jars in the freezer. Definitely has me thinking a lot.

Big hugs to you weasel....I'm so sorry to hear about sweet Henry's declining health.
I'm in bed, waiting another hour before
I can go to sleep. I couldn't sleep last night so I'm exhausted. Naturally I had an intense day at work on top of it. But I can deal with being tired...not as bad as a hangover.
Going to buy a new sewing machine tomorrow. I plan to do some quilting and need a machine for parts of it. My sewing machine bit the dust...
Ok...I'll see if I can find something on tv...8pm is just too early to go to sleep.

StrugglingJim, I've been thinking about what you wrote about anxiety for a good part of the day since I read it. A long time ago, before I learned more about alcoholism, I went through a period where I suddenly didn't drink because I got sick. After an initial period of not drinking, I would drink maybe one or two beers. I started having wretched anxiety attacks, followed by panic attacks. I couldn't eat because if I ate, my stomach hurt, followed by more anxiety and panic attacks. The only time I ate was if I did have a beer and the anxiety lessened.
Helpful things I learned at the time - drinking only prolonged the agony. It didn't make it go away. Once I quit drinking for good, with no alcohol intake, the anxiety and panic attacks subsided and with no repeat. I was taking benzos for them before but haven't in a very, very long time. My appetite returned. It hasn't been great lately but it did return.
Just don't drink. Anxiety and panic attack are horribly awful but they won't kill you. They are crap to go through but in my experience, they got a whole lot better. See your doctor again if they become unbearable. Don't drink to make them go away. You're doing great at 15 days. Keep it up. Keep posting here.

Morning everyone, Happy Hump Day
Sorry about what you will have to go through at the vet Ken. Take consolation from the fact that Henry has had a long and happy life
I listened to a discussion about The Big Short, it seems like we could well be heading for another crash. Cheery thought

Hi all. Absolutely knackered. It's picking up here in town. Carnival time. Good thing I am neither Catholic or extroverted. Because I do not care! I think that will help me immensely during this season. I live and work in the same neighborhood. Far enough removed from the craziness. Ah.
I love my crazy town but I love being able to step away from it.

Weasel, sorry about Henry
Just got home, tired as but I've got training tonight.
Heard on the radio that,
1 in 5 Australians consume all available alcohol
1 in 20 have more than 8 drinks per day
WOW!
Good advertising by the liquor suppliers is said to be a major factor in influencing people
