Question new to sobriety

Hi there, just thought I would give this a try. I have been drinking for ab out 12 years now on a nightly basis. I have tried to quit on my own before with little success. Enough is enough. I have noticed some effects on my body including the development of an ulcer. It's only been 36 hours and I have had only one side effect (sweating). I don't really know what to expect next. I am only glad I found this site as I feel very alone and no one knows or even suspects I have a problem.

Welcome to the site! It will keep getting better after this initial discomfort. You may have some trouble sleeping in early days, but it will work itself out. Come here to the site and read or post if you are feeling irritable or if you need some support.

Welcome to SR, time63; you will find so much support, understanding and encouragement here.

You never have to feel lonely; SR is 24/7/365; I have logged-on at all times of the day and night (occasional insomniac here) and there has always been someone here.

Have a look around the site; giving special attention to the Stickies at the top of each forum where there is great information.

You might want to consider joining an SR Class or stopping in to the 24 Hour Recovery connection thread each day.

I'll post the links and a few others in a minute.

Welcome to SR, time!

This is a great place to find both the information you need and the support if you want to stop drinking.

Stopping drinking is likely going to be uncomfortable at first, but if you can get through that and develop a plan to help you to stay stopped, life can be so much better.

Welcome. I wish you the best. Don't be set off if you have physical effects or setbacks. Recovery is a process that takes time. This site is a great wealth of support and information. Lean on it if you need.

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

Really happy that you're stopping. I'm 6 days in myself. Isn't it great not to have a hangover for a change?
