R.I.P. David Bowie
I used to be in band and once upon a time the death if a rock star would've been a reason to go and get hammered. To celebrate the rock n roll lifestyle and the ethos of 'live fast die young' and all that crap. After years of this kind of behaviour I've finally come to realise that a lot of rock stars and famous people aren't doing it to push boundaries or explore the the limits of excess or whatever; they are people with demons much like anyone else, using drink and drugs to cope. Much the same as I was/am and much te same as we all do. My thought pattern has finally changed and can see substance abuse as what it is - self medication for problems that arrogance, denial and fear stop us from addressing. So instead of using David's death as a reason to get annihilated, I'm going to enjoy his music, listening to it through new ears and hearing it with a different mindset, along with a nice cup of coffee . Two weeks sober tomorrow and I'm beginning to realise that the good life isn't 'out there' it's inside me. I just have to know where and how to look for it.
Congratulations on your sober time!
I hadn't really listen to David Bowie since the 70's and early 80's. It took his death for me to give his stuff a new listen. Now I appreciate his musical diversity and lyrics much more.
