Excited For The Future
Hello there.
I've been a member of several online forums throughout my lifetime & they often have a New Members section to introduce yourself. After some searching, I could not determine if this forum had one of those but this certainly seemed like the closest thing to it.
My name is Drew and I am a sex & love addict. Or just an addict...those just happened to lead me to recovery. I've been in recovery since August 20th, 2014. I didn't truly begin to understand what it meant to live a more sober life though until about July 16th, 2015. I had over 5 months of sobriety from bottom line behaviors up until January 1st of this year...no coincident that it was immediately after the holidays, I assure you.
Since then I have discovered multiple ways and things my mind uses to numb & eventually escape reality. Some of those things seem so harmless to modern society & are also things I have enjoyed my entire life, such as video games. The interesting thing though however was when I asked why I enjoy each of those activities individually and realized the common trait underlining them all...escape. Sure some offer different degrees of intensity (marijuana being the most intense minus my bottomline behaviors), but they are all used to serve a similar purpose.
Today, I struggle with finding ways to fill my time & stimulate my mind. Not to mention, I have the tendency to "go crazy" once I find something I enjoy and dive into the activity aggressively.
This is just a piece of me however and does not define who I am as a person.
I love me, I love recovery, and I love my Higher Power.
I look forward to getting to know everybody here a little bit better. One day at a time.

Hi Drew! I think the holidays tripped a lot of people up. Glad you're joining the community; just pop in here whenever you need some support!

Welcome Dpad. I too am no stranger to seeking external magic elixirs for all that ails me. They are an illusion...but I suppose illusion is sometimes what I seek. It's kind of like trying to put my hand's on "tomorrow"...it cannot be held in hand.
