Does anyone watch the CBS show, Mom? It's a comedy about a mother and daughter (Anna Farris) who are both alcoholics. Lots of shallow humor but I've started watching it and love relating to them and watching their journey. Now I know it is a very unrealistic portrayal of reality, bordering insulting even, for someone going through serious problems, but it really HELPS me and makes me feel less alone.
Can anyone recommend any other tv shows or movies that have helped them similarly?
Finished day 4. It was great - I had a nice workout, drank two cappuccinos, and ate healthy. Looking forward to day 5

It bounces around a little on the TV schedule here but I love 'Mom'.
Can't say I find it insulting - I'm not looking for an insightful doco from Chuck Lorre.
I can;t think of any other shows or movies off the top of my head right now - but I'll remember later

I haven't seen 'Mom' but I will check it out!
True, Dee about Chuck Lorre (also of Dharma & Greg) lol !
I loved "When A Man Loves A Woman" with Meg Ryan. Get out the tissues, though...I found it to be brutally honest but it struck a very unforgettable chord with me early in my sobriety.
Nice to meet you, Seep- hope to see you around the chat room again soon!

There is a great movie about the true story of a gambling addict called "Owning Mahoney". It is out of this world good and really speaks to the insanity of the addiction disease no matter what the vice may be. It stars the late Seymour Hoffman who was one of us that we lost to a heroin overdose. Cant recommend it enough. John
It's an oldie, but "The Lost Weekend" starring Ray Milland was a really hard-hitting movie for me. It was made in 1945, but alcoholism hasn't changed much since then. Milland's portrayal of an alcoholic was brutally honest and it was gut-wrenching for me to watch but very eye-opening.
The Pilot (1980) - IMDb
I also agree that The Lost Weekend was really great in a terrible way. Very powerful. If you liked that, check out Days of Wine and Roses which starred Jack Lemon. It was about an alcoholic ad agency guy who just spins out of control as did Ray in the previously mentioned film.
