Glad I'm Sober
It's been a heck of a few days.
Sunday night our Labradoodle, Micci was looking pretty listless and she eventually threw up. At midnight we decided to take her into an emergency vet. Turns out she had a tumor on her spleen that had ruptured. We decided, probably didn't have a choice, to have the tumor and spleen removed. Got home at 2:30 am and tried to get some sleep. Then had to get up at 6:00 am to get Micci and move her to a 24/7 care facility.
Now if I'd been drinking I would have driven to the vet drunk, been way hungover in the morning and generally feeling like crap. Instead I'm just tired from getting very little sleep the past 3 nights.
It's been almost 4 months now and it is sooo much better to be sober.
Micci is home now but we're still waiting for the results if the tumor is malignant or not. If it is it's not good and Micci probably only has a few months. My wife is really taking this hard and I have tears in my eyes as I type this. So pray for Micci.
For anyone still on the fence, you can actually take care of your loved ones sober. Crap in life still happens but you can manage it and take care of it in a responsible fashion.
Edit, thinking about this is if I'd been drinking I'd probably would have said f it, we'll deal with it the morning. In which case Micci would probably have bled out and not been with us any more.

Thoughts with, your family and Micci.
Have just been through something similar with one of our dogs... found a big lump on his tummy, panicked etc... fortunately though after tests and whatnot it was just fatty and he's now recovered. At the same time, one of the cats got a scratch on its eye which turned in to an ulcer and that needed treatment. Fortunately though he's fine now as well... but have had countless trips back and forth from the vet in the past month.
Lucky for me that none of this needed emergency treatment otherwise I would have had to make that driving call you described. I could schedule the appointments around the drinking...
Anyway... hope Micci is back to normal soon.

I have a goldendoodle, they are cool dogs. He has had a quite a few health scares, and he is on borrowed time, but I wouldnt trade it for anything.
Im glad you were able to get your pup the help s/he needed. Im glad you were there for Micci.
Hoping for the best for you.

I'll be praying for Micci, too.
Jd - thank you for a valuable post. It really hit home. Many times I behaved recklessly & irresponsibly due to being trashed. It was shameful, but no more. I'm very happy you were available to do the right thing.

Thank you everyone for your prayers. They worked! Micci just got the test results back and the tumor is benign. She should heal and live to a normal old age.
And, I'm 120 days sober!

Congratulations on 120 sober days!!!!!.
How scary. I just about die myself when something happens to my dogs. They are so precious.
It is wonderful you could be there for your family and for Micci. That is what life is all about, I think. Your post almost made me cry.
I will keep your family and Micci in my thoughts.
Edited to add that I should have finished reading through the thread. And also, YEA!
