MBrown,
Taking a walk is a great idea. Wanting to pick up a drink is just a thought....push through by distracting yourself and it will pass.
Great job on 6 days....it is a lot of progress!

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

I defeated a bad craving recently by getting in my car and going on a long drive to nowhere in particular. When I got back home about 3 hours later, the craving had passed.

early on i had days the mental obsession drove me (more) bonkers and i had to fight to not drink.
well worth the fight.
i think many here will agree 6 days is an eternity. good on ya!

At the start these feeling come quite often, and I always felt that they might just sweep me away. The good news is that, although they feel awful, they don't actually do any harm at all. The longer since your last drink, the bigger the gap between these cravings will be. Keep starving the beast!
Keep an eye on the HALT (Hunger; Anger; Lonely; Tired) triggers, and avoid them wherever possible.
Be gentle with yourself. You're doing great - this part will soon pass.

Good Job!
6 days is great! I don't feel I can give any advice as I am only 72 days today! But it does get a little easier and then harder and then easier again. At least for me. I want to drink some part of everyday pretty much but I know I would feel like total sh*! if I did and be SO disappointed in myself , so I get busy with something else and then before I know it the day is gone. Alcohol was my very best friend and I drank alone a lot, so I miss it, I grieve it. Maybe that is what you're feeling, the loss of this companion. You should be proud, stay strong!

Soberwolf, I love those links, especially Carol D's tips. It took me a long time to realize the "need" to drink is craving that will in fact pass, because for so many years I just drank everytime I felt like it. I never knew what it was like to ride the wave. Of course it is tough and my best description for the anxiety is wanting to rip my own skin off, but it DOES PASS!
