2016--the year I stay sober

I've been to this site off and on for a long time now so people are tired of me posting that I've quit for good--and then backpedaling.

Something happened to me on December 30 that convinced me to never drink again. I'm fully armed with a Big Plan and nothing will dissuade me from sticking to it.

This is far more than a New year's resolution. It's a matter of life or death for me. Drinking and self-loathing have gone hand in hand for me since...well, probably from my 18th birthday onward. The drinking part is "simple"--I just won't do it anymore. I've been seeking professional help for my self-loathing. That's the difficult part for me.

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

Are you in on that 24-hour thread? Might be good to make that daily commitment in front of your peers here.

I agree: 2016 is the year this needs to stop, January is the month, and today is the day.

Good job getting professional help. I did that too and it helped big time. Counseling should be on everyone's list I think. Most anyway. Normally there's an underlying reason for addiction.

The psyche is so complex. We're much quicker to see a GP when sick or hurt, but never see a counselor when we're mentally off key.

Happy 2016 to ya!! It's going to be an awesome year!

You can do it
We support you and believe in you. Life on the sober side is going to reward you so much more than any booze session ever has.
