How do ya'll sleep? I've tried melatonin, herbal sleepy time tea, calming tea, extra sleepy time tea, etc. All with minimal results. Love my new found sobriety, but after 19 days I can still barely sleep. |
Set a bedtime routine and ditch all the screens 30 minutes before bed Read a book instead. |

It might take a little longer than 19 days before your sleep patterns go back to normal. Give yourself more sober time. If you're still not sleeping in a month or so, see your doctor. |

My body needed time to adjust to a normal sleeping pattern. It took me a good month before I actually slept through the night. Exercising during the day helped me. Melatonin gave me nightmares. Your body will adjust but if you simply can't sleep, perhaps a visit to your Doctor can help? Congratulations on 19 days! :) |
Congratulations on staying sober, maybe consider talking to your doctor for a short term remedy to get you back into a regular sleeping schedule (they do this in the detox centers I have been in), I agree with the posts above, sometimes it just takes time. What I did/still do although sleep is no longer an issue is walk my dog before bed or if it's too cold/storm, I meditate something I learned in a 28 day program, I find for me it clears my head so that when I lay my head down I have cleared the clutter. There are many online meditation video's, it takes or at least in my case took a lot of practice but once I learned how to use it, I find it really works well. I used to suffer from anxiety attacks even after being sober for months, meditation stopped those as I can do it anytime and anywhere, even at work while keeping focused at the task at hand. I do smoke. That's the only vice I have left so I'll hang on to it just a little longer. Haha. |
There was some talk on here about interrupted sleep becoming the norm for some people. I don't get the classic 8 hours any more. Could be aging. I forget that I'm 56. I wake up every night a couple of times minimum. I just roll over and don't stress over it. That's the key: don't stress. |

How do I sleep? Frankly, not very well! You are not alone...hang in there, and check with your doc if it goes on too long/you get toooo tired. |
I've found, as I get older ( 58) I don't sleep as well as I used to. Even though I've been sober a few years, I struggle with a good night's sleep. Yoga, exercise, not napping and reading all help ....but even if I don't sleep well, I never have a hangover ! |
Well done on 19 days I am just finishing day 2 and struggling with sleep Looking at these posts it might take some time But it's a small price to pay and as already said by Pondlady no hangover is amazing. Good luck with you sleep tonight everyone |
