Day 2 - Thoughts so far...

Currently half way through day 2 of sobriety. Last night during the early evening the cravings came as expected. I fended them off with chamomile tea and a new season of a favorite television show of mine. It worked last night without too much of an issue but I fear these coming evenings up to the first week mark won't be so easy.

I'm actually finding sleep difficult and to be honest I'm finding myself not tired at all. When I gave in at 3am and went to bed for the third attempt I found myself with my heart thumping quite hard and the predicted sweating started. I eventually dropped off to sleep around 4am and woke at 9am not feeling too bad all things considered. I'm happy to take that as a result for the first night.

I'll check in tomorrow with the experience of this evening of Day 2. I hope a daily check in won't become too annoying for everyone but I feel that peoples thoughts/reassurances are the only way I'm going to get through this.

Thank you all so much for the support!

Daniel

Daniel,

Hi and welcome.

Get out of the death spiral. Sobriety is the way to live.

Being a drunk is no way to go through and eventually end your life.

Don't relapse. Fight for your sobriety like your life depends on it.

Stay clean, stay free.

Daily check in is a good thing, definitely not annoying.

If you were a heavy, repetitive drinker like I was then you are likely to have disrupted sleep patterns for a while but they will revert to normal given time

Congratulations on 2 days Daniel

Definitely post daily. It will help me as I get ready for my own quit date on January 11. Yikes. That's only, like, a week away!

Hey Daniel. That, for me, has always been one of the worst parts of withdraw. Being wide awake in bed when you'd normally be fast asleep sucks. The tossing, turning, twitching, itching.. it's enough to drive someone mad. I have been tapering off since the 29th and I'm already having this problem (again) even though I haven't "quit" yet.

But.. one thing I've learned over a couple dozen attempts is that even a few hours of sober rest is by far more refreshing than 8 or 9 hours of drunken "sleep."

Keep going bro. It'll get better.

You're doing well Daniel. I had trouble sleeping for a while but it sorted itself out eventually - it got progressively better for me each night...it took a week to 10 days for me before I found a regular sleep pattern again.

Well done on day 2 !!!
I am with you on the sleep but I am sure we will
be sleeping soundly soon. We kept sober that's
all that matters at the moment:c011:

Getting back into the sleep routine takes time but it will happen. Congratulations on day 2, keep checking in and maybe go for a walk or consider meditation, they worked and work for me.
