Lurking for a while....

Hi all

I've been lurking around this site for a couple of years now, and have made countless failed attempts to quit in that time

I'm hoping this time is going to be different - not least because I've taken the plunge and decided to engage actively with this brilliant community.

I wish everyone strength in this difficult fight.

Welcome, the key, at least in my case is to be around people that understand this addiction and those that have gone through what we do understand and are my friends even if we never meet, the main point is to have a plan and really, really want to stop.

If I would go to any length to get a drink and when I drink I will, I want sobriety as I love life and I have had stretches where I was sober for quite some time and very, very happy but this AV we all have gained control over time, I know how it gets me now so I am seeing professional help to deal with those issues because I know if I do, I will never drink again, that is the end game and I will see it through.

The question always is how bad do we want sobriety, for me I am going to any length and use any and all resources I can get my hands on. It's an everything to gain vs loose what little is still left to and in my life including life itself, I will not go down the road of destruction again. When I play the tape through, it's really scary to me. I am doing what it takes to stay sober and following my plan.

Hello Asyuk, Nice to have you here. You are trying something new to quit. When attempts to quit fail then trying something new is the way to go. Keep at it and you will figure it out.

Best wishes for your New Year.

Welcome, post as much or as little as you like but keep coming back. It really helps to get the daily reminders of how hard this is and how others are struggling as well.

Hi, there! I'm getting sober this month, too! Let's kick a** and take names!

Been struggling myself for a long time, but am ready to give this a solid effort.

I'm already pretty overwhelmed by the kind welcomes and messages of support. Thank you all.

As you say - let's have this and finally do it. God knows I need to and obviously everyone here feels the same way.

SR is a great site, I am back here after a few too many slips and I am shooting for an alcohol free 2016.
