Sponsors

My H left today for treatment and I have been involved on this site for a few weeks. Is it possible to get a sponsor here on this site that I can communicate with? This site has been so helpful thus far

Do you mean for you being a partner of someone with addiction problems, or someone with addiction problems yourself? If it's the first one, it might be best to post your request in the Friends and Family area to find someone suitable.

Also, is it possible to get to a CoDa or AlAnon meeting and get some face to face support as well as the support on here (and maybe get a local sponsor who you can meet up with and chat and have coffee etc.)? I know it's scary, but that face to face support is pretty wonderful.

Beccybean offers great insight above.

Finding a sponsor is best one-to-one in person, but feel free to message me and these blogs. I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for!

Best of luck

SorroW22, I don't see why not, you can find a friend/sponsor on here. I would read through many threads, find someone you like and respect...with a lot of sobriety. They may or may not be willing-my guess is they will.

A "in person" is best due to the vagaries of text and the ability of phone calling.

H=husband

Most people who sponsor still tend to want to do it face to face sorroW, but you might find someone here who's familiar with Al-Anon and is willing to help online.

best wishes,
D

Can you explain this to me please?

I think it means that the poster is saying that sponsorship in person with someone geographically close (rather than on-line) would be best, because texts and e-mails can be vague or easily misinterpreted.

I think its always handy to hear a persons voice or see their face when they're explaining something. I was just thinking how many tones and meaning the simple phrase 'I'm fine' can have for example. If it's someone in your own area its easier to have daily / regular phone conversations or meet up and they can get to know you which is vital if you're sponsoring someone.
