Wink New Year, New Me!

I've finally made the commitment to stop drinking. My life , my thoughts and my actions were toxic and unmanageable due to my drinking. I stopped for 3 1/2 months over the summer and never felt better. Thought I could moderate and now I'm back to where I was all over a gain. The New Year gives me hope and in my mind a clean slate. I'll need to read and post here often to keep myself accountable and moving in the right direction. What a relief to have made the decision.
I'm grateful to all of you for the 24/7 support.
Happy New Year to all. Let's help each other to make this a healthy and great New Year!

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

Hi, Jecrois! It's awesome that you've made this commitment!

So, what are you doing today instead of drinking? Do you have a plan for how to use your new free time, or how to resist any cravings if they pop up?

I could use some tips, too, since I'm new to this.

HiSoberinSyracuse,
I'm starting a journal today to chronicle my new journey. I started with a cup of coffee and a positive attitude. I'm not sure if I will use sources other than SR, but will post and read here often to keep myself accountable. Definitely going outside for a walk today, exercise helps with my depression, which I think was another reason for my drinking. Worst part is that the wine made the depression worse and added anxiety, weight gain, bad skin, sadness etc. I don't know exactly how I will do this, I just know that I will. I can't live the way I was carrying on. I want my life back!

Glad you're both here!

There is a short concise book that many have read here and elsewhere - Living Sober. Good basic advice to get us started and keep us focused. It is used by AA'ers but certainly not exclusive as it very general and not "program" oriented.

“Anyone can get sober. . .the trick is to live sober.”

Best of luck, keep posting!

Welcome aboard! Keeping a journal is a valuable tool. I have gone back and re-read my early sobriety entries, and I am amazed at the transformation that took place!

Happy for you to have made the decision to quit drinking. You won't regret it!

Congratulations on your fresh start

Do you have any ideas on a recovery plan?
