Quitting today
Long time lurker here. The advice on this site is certainly inspirational. I do believe it will be a key weapon in my sobriety arsenal.
Had my last drink 9 hours ago. I'm just tired - tired of the lies, tired of drinking a six pack at 3:00 am in the hope ill get a couple hours of sleep.
I'm confident I can do this, but the urge right now is excrutiating.

You can have reasons, or you can have results, but you can't have both.

What a great day to choose sobriety.
You've gone from lurking to posting -- that's awesome. It means your desire for freedom is building. Keep stoking that fire and let it become so urgent that you're ready to make recovery your top priority.
Be sure to reach out for medical help if your withdrawals are severe. Trust me on this one. I'm the self-detox Queen of the Grand Mal Seizure!
Hang in, be careful as you detox, and tell us how you're feeling after your first full sober day! And definitely plan a fantastic nonalcoholic gift to yourself to celebrate 1/1/2016 sober!!

Hi Soberinpa - it's great to have you with us.
Reading and posting here really helped with the anxiety I was feeling in the early days of recovery. I had felt all alone with the struggle, until I found SR. I agree with your feelings of being tired of it all - that's how I was in the end. I had tried desperately to cling to the fun it once was, but it was bringing me only misery. Yes, I remember the beer in the wee hours. I'm so glad we don't have to live that way any more - we are free.

it is a good time to start, you can do it, 25 days ago i felt the same way, it was time, i had enough, i could not take one more hangover, it goes fast, the first few days are hard but just keep thinking what its like the next morning if you drink, i am pulling for you.
Think of those bottles/cans of poison as having skulls with crossbones on them. Just pure evil juice.
But really, it's bad stuff. So glad I'm over it and what a great time for you to choose your authentic life over a stunted one full of misery, embarrassment, and possible legal and/or health problems.

24 hours into this and hanging in there. No sleep last nite, but it will come.
I've been through a few detoxes in my life, but the symptoms this time around seem sharper, more than i would have thought from a 6 day beer binge. Kindling, i guess. The shakiness, anxiety and general feeling of unease are particularly difficult.
