new here and feeling lonely

Hi well I have decided recently to give up the booze, after a recent scare of poor health I want to try and give up. I have suffered years of friends and family making a joke out of my love for drink, I thought I would do something about it, I am doing this alone so hopefully I can keep strong.
I know why I started drinking so hopefully this will help me, although that problem is still with me, maybe I can tackle it a different way.
Wish me luck.

Welcome. Whatever you are suffering, someone here has been through something similar and has been able to put down the drink anyway.

Finding peace with my past has been one of the best parts of sobriety.

Hello, I'm new too! I'm glad i found this place, its full of very supportive people and I'm finding it a really good source of positive distraction when I'm starting to feel anxious and low in these early detoxing stages. I'm sure you will too!

Hello zigzag, I too started drinking because of a particular problem. Funny how drinking all these years never solved it. Welcome, lot of helpful people here.

Welcome to SR! Not drinking is only a lonely journey if you choose it to be. I've found more friends and support since quitting than I ever had before. Stick around. It's good you're here.

Yes, good luck to you. Breaking the cycle of getting drunk is mostly hard work, especially at first. Happy 2016!

Thank you for the profound words Bimini. I need to "think upon them".

"Finding peace with my past has been one of the best parts of sobriety."

Hi Zigzagging and welcome,

I am new to the SR forum but it has been such a help. Everyone is encouraging, helpful and friendly. Most importantly they understand and do not judge. I am on my 7th sober day and can honestly say the wonderful folk on SR have played a part in that.

Good luck and keep logging in.

Welcome to SR. You don't have to feel lonely anymore. We are not just screen names (BreakingNews: I am not Grumpy cat) we are alcoholics and addicts just like you who understand what you are going through.
Why don't you join us at the 24 hours recovery connections where we commit not to drink or drug for the day? It is a fun supportive way to hold ourselves accountable

Hi, ZZ. I'm new here as well and am going through physical and mental preparations for a quit date in about 10 days when I go through a detox.

One thing I learned from my previous efforts to quit is that we all need a ton of support. Joining this group was part of my quitting plan.

There is a lot of support and nonjudgment here. Drop in daily!

Welcome Zigzagging,

I'm glad you have decided to stop drinking.

I think it's important to know that stopping drinking is the first step and then we must deal with the underlying issues that brought us to this point, so that we can heal and move on. We\re here for you.

Welcome! Getting sober and staying sober is a double edged sword, it can be hard at times but it is sooooo worth it! The best thing for me being sober is no hangovers, no regrets, no guilt, no shame, not waking up worrying or having that dreadful horror of the night before, skin is clearer, I feel healthier! Id rather have that over a drink anyday! Good luck, your'll find loads of support here so your def not alone x x x
