2 months sober and noticing...

...that my anxiety is actually starting to get better now. When I was drinking, I always felt on edge. I think maybe alcohol actually worsened my anxiety disorder, which is strange because it also made the feeling go away. What a trap! The first couple weeks sober I was extremely irritable and jumpy and now I feel like my emotions are starting to balance out. Just another observation.

Glad to be sober. Here's to a sober and addiction free 2016!

My anxiety got a lot better too once I was sober for a while.

You seem a bit surprised to be working with the idea that alcohol increased your anxiety disorder. What about waking up after a binge with a horrible hangover and maybe problems relating to blackout? How could that not make you anxious?

To be honest, sobriety's got to be a key ingredient to good mental health.

I never blacked out so that never caused anxiety for me. I'm surprised because it seemed to be the only thing that helped relieve the anxiety and yet it may have at the same time been making it much worse.

Crazy....a 12 pack a day for a week or 2 , then after that....the anxiety monster creeps in after the 3rd beer....Who came up with this evil plan???

I have had similar relief of anxiety and depression after quitting 3 months!

I can relate....alcohol helped in the moment....but over time, created a vicious cycle of more anxiety. It really is a trap.

I've heard it gets better and better.

22 days sober. I've notice some anxiety in the past week. I think some of it revolves around wanting/wishing I was many many more months sober. I'm in a hurry
I do feel and look much better. In a week or so I'm going to have to confront somethings and a person. I would have had just a few drinks to chill but I'm not really worried about it. My mind is a lot sharper and I have a plan I will stick too. No need for anger just plain straight talk.

I've been taking some B-3, heard that helps. I'll let you know.

Congrats on two months. Alcohol is sneaky like that. I found the same thing when I quit. For so long, I thought alcohol was the solution, but once I quit, I started to realize that is was the cause of most of the problems too! Congrats on quitting the nicotine too!!

And... it really does keep getting better!

chrcarlson- I can so relate to being in a hurry about getting sober. When I first quit, I wanted so many things to just be better- work, finances, relationships, PAWS, etc. It was so frustrating to see progress on those things creep along. You'll get there before you know it though! It amazes me when I realize that so many of those things I wanted have slowly but surely materialized in my life.

I like to refer to these "Moments" of enlightenment as...

..."Sober Surprise Moments"...you never really expect them but when they do happen you know exactly what they are.

It only gets better !

congratulations to ALL of you who are experiencing/noticing the changes.

be mindful that you may experience a period of time you may lose this feeling. it's part of the healing process. do not give in if you start feeling 'bad' again. it's normal. keep with it and the feelings of 'good' will stay with you.
with each month it gets better and better. sometimes you won't notice it but it's happening.

Stress and anxiety deplete the body of some B vitamins so taking a supplement is a great idea!

When I've quit in the past, I noticed some relief from anxiety after about 4 or 5 days. And after about 3 weeks, I was feeling tremendously better both physically and psychologically.
