Thank you very much for the posting. #3 really spoke to me. I had thought about buying a non-alcooholic bubbly, but after reading your post, why would I take that risk? I DO NOT WANT to wake the beast!

Here in the UK it's nice to see Sidney harbour bridge and a bit later Beijing see in the new year on the telly.

Makes me feel hopeful to see other people around the world having a good time .

I can recommend fizzy water , decent food and some tv time , also it's nice to see the view from the ISS ( international space station) web cam .

Maybe we don't have to go to the party this year , maybe we just got to get through .

Be safe , m

I liked this in the article you linked to:

Rely on God to allow you to lean on others. To do supernatural things, I need supernatural help which is God and the people God uses to help me one day at a time.

I'm in Scotland so Hogmanay is a really big night and following day too. However, I will also be at home with my friends, Ben & Jerry & Haagen Dazs

I never liked going out NYE when drinking anyway as everywhere was just so busy and took ages to get drinks

For those in early sobriety and those further on, it is only another night, even just a few hours. You will get through it and be so glad in the morning that you did not drink.

I don't like new years either ( even when drinking)
Though I got roped into going out this year.
I'll just drive- I never drink and drive ( not even one drink) so having the car will end that.

Happy New Year, everybody.

New year's eve has never been a big occasion for me, I usually stay in and watch a movie. This will be my second sober new year's. We were invited to a neighbor's gathering (she invited people from our street) -- I want to meet more neighbors, so we'll stop by for a visit. I bought flavored sparkly water to bring. If there's a lot of drinking I'll just stay for a few minutes to say hello, then walk back home. I never stay awake until midnight anyway!

When I was younger I used to have so many things about my life that I wanted to change that I would overhype New Years and drink and party and take that last puff of a cigarette right up until 12:00. I don't think I ever kept any of my New Year's resolutions. Sober I like the holiday a bit more and will usually cook something good and we all meet at one of my brother's houses for a New Year's Day lunch. I think many people use from Christmas to New Year's as an excuse to stay blotto the whole time, and thus I always hated that week.
Now I love it and rest and practice gratitude between Christmas and New Year's , but rarely stay up until midnight, lol. I am thankful and happy with where I am and I am going to echo Least about the drunk drivers on New Years. One of the most deadly nights of the year to be on the road.

How does cognitive restructuring work?

"The theory is that if you can change how you look at specific events or circumstances, you may be able to change the feelings you have and actions you take." - healthline.com

Works for me in a progress not perfection way.

I may go outside a midnight with a pot and a spoon banging it loud...lol.

Dee, it was so fun to read posts from old friends. Thanks for the bump.

I worked on NYE for years. Like most others, it was no different than any other day as far as drinking.

That holds true now in sobriety.

New year makes me very anxious, always did. I never liked going out for it so now I drive and collect family who do enjoy going out for it, make sure they are safe
Usually, I go a nice walk or hike early on that day or binge watch a show with ben n jerry.
It's just a day and this too shall pass

A couple of my friends and I have arranged to go out on NYE, they will both be drinking, I am thinking to cancel, as it just isn't worth putting myself in that position. Is this wise? I don't really want to go, but I do feel bad for cancelling, and I've not seen anyone really over the holidays. However my feeling is socialising can wait, and I can do that at a later date once I have some more sober time under my belt. I just feel NYE right now is a situation I do not need.

Theres a bit of a pattern here i see. I dont think any of us liked NYE out on the town 😅.
Recommend a good movie some tapas on the coffee table and into bed before 10pm, waking up fresh is the best new years day we can give ourselves.

Avoidance of those situations was my first line of defense. It's not that way now, but I used it for several years. Is it wise? It was for me.

I LOVE New Years Eve/Day. Not so big on Christmas.

For me, New Years is a time to reflect on the past year and how I* can improve myself.

It is a new start.
