I nearly didn't come back and post today. After all I said on Christmas day about not drinking and being ok for the day I wound up going out to a friends and drank a bottle of wine. It wasn't the disaster it could've been - but that's the point; it could've been. I really don't know what booze is going to do to my head every time I drink nowadays. I can't live like that.
Soooo, in the name of honesty I finally came back and owned up.
Just because it's online doesn't mean we're unaccountable, if so what's the point??

Welcome back, Jimmihow.
Lots of good advice above from people who have been on the same road.
Two things caught my particular attention in your posts.
1. "Managing drinking" - IMO "managing" drinking is like managing a nuclear bomb - the best way to manage it is to never touch in the first place.
2. "Maybe" is not the best strategy in recovery. You need a plan which you will follow doesn't matter what. Protect your sobriety like you would protect a newborn fragile baby. You wouldn't sent it to the war straight out of a cradle, would you? It needs some time to grow and gain strength so that later on it will protect you. And it will.
"spirit of the day will rub off on me". It may rub off, it may not. And even if it rubs off, chances are it will be only skin-deep and will be gone after the first shower. It's essential to grow that spirit inside you - spirit that will never depend on the circumstances, season, holidays, etc. Takes time, but with some effort invested gives unparallel sense of freedom.
Keep posting.

In the end, jimmy, you are only accountable to you.
I'm sorry you drank. What was it you were saying to yourself to allow yourself to go back on the word you gave? Don't let this eat away at you - figure it out, though.
