THIS very second would be the next best time.

Don't pick up a drink today. Go to bed sober. You'll be very glad you did.

One of the things that helps me after work on those a evenings that are tempting is to read a good book or listen to something with headphones. it takes me to a different place and away from that urge to drink. I take a benedryl and go to bed early sometimes too.

Make today your new Day 1, Susan.

Give yourself the gift of going to bed sober and waking up hangover-free.

I'm pretty much in the same boat Susan. I am just entering day 2 after many failed attempts and promises to myself. I just can't do it anymore and need to find healthy ways to deal with my anger, etc. Finish up just hurting myself and I'm sick of it. Hope your resolve has returned to begin at good old day 1.

I'm a little over 2 weeks sober. The first 2 to 4 days were the hardest. It does get easier quickly. Hope that helps. You might consider other activities when you normally drink. For me it's after work-you could always go see a movie to kill about two hours.

Susan, I hope you are doing well today. I drank for 30 years and quit many many times. Always just my own Iron will! Usually lasted a few days.

So what's the longest I've quit for? Oh, it's 1 am-must be 16 days!!! A little rough at times but It's been the easiest attempt I've made. What made this time the easiest? In order:

1. I finally thoroughly accepted I'm an Alcoholic. No maybe I'm not, no 1/2 measures. I just admitted it to myself.

2. I know from experience exactly what happens if I have one drink. My old pattern always returns.

3. I usually drink at a certain time-I'm always have other plans at that time. AA meetings or something else.

4. I don't think much about yesterday or the past. I Stop myself thinking about the future regarding alcohol. I don't think I can quit drinking for the rest of my life so I'm not going to think about it or even try. I Can stop drinking for one day-that's today. One Day at a Time.

I posted in October that things were getting bad. I mostly quit drinking and went on a health and lost about 15 pounds. Between October and Thanksgiving, I had two sips of beer and one glass of wine. I was so worried about eating too many calories, I forgot to control drinking and can barely remember any of it.
I sobered up and was fine until two Saturdays ago when I went to Total Wine with my husband to get his vodka. Started drinking in a controlled fashion until Saturday when I fell off the cliff. Yesterday, I woke up and asked my family why they were up so late. They pointed out it was 6:30 p.m.
Sitting here drinking coffee and water. Then, I'm going on walk and then going shopping. Not much of a plan but it's all I've got. I don't feel well, but the one thing that will help will actually hurt.
